The vet was a Chapess (stop your misogamist tripe now!), can't answer the other questions about the vet.
Lucy is 13 - other details need discussing with someone who knows about things - ie. a Vet....
Sorry to read about Lucy. Dogs do not understand suffering and when there is no quality of life its time to make a difficult decision. It is as you say, something you need to discuss with your vet. But I just wanted to say that.... Its not easy to lose any animal and if Lucy's time has come you have my sympathy. Patty Thanks Patty.
Trying to balance vets thoughts about more tests and a rather expensive scan v my thoughts that perhaps the time has come is difficult... and a very individual decision to take. Off now with tupperware container in hand to try to get another wee wee sample!

Used to have to do that with one of mums dogs...had its moments of humour when you'd be stalking for ages then they'd sprint off n pee..they knew..

Update...
Lucy lives on...
No infection although blood tests indicate something is wrong. No talk about PTS from the vet.
Time to see what nature has in store is my considered opinion. She is wagging her tail at this opinion...

Well as is often the case nature throws up curved balls occasionally/often...
A diversion in the wrong direction to Leamington is now required for a rather expensive scan/sedation etc.
At least after that I can make the decision armed with as much knowledge as possible.

Sounds a good plan.. Fingers crossed that its something that'll have a sort of cure..I know there is no remedy for old age etc but sometimes medication can buy quality time for our pets..
