Whilst the voice over and backing music leave alot to be desired in this video it explains the reality of extinction rebellion very well in my opinion.

I reckon their founder Gail Bradbrook is a right old sort. There's probably not a great deal we'd agree on though.
Gail, if you're reading, you're welcome aboard my boat any time. I've always got rum, and you'll love my furry friend.

The video isn’t primarily about criticising ER, although there are some excellent points made. The narrator held up Cuba as a paragon amongst nations that sets the example the world should follow. I’ve been there and its not all great – there is poverty, a thriving black market in cigars, and the infrastructure is held together by the death-watch beetle holding hands. But on the other hand there is free healthcare, free education, no drugs, low crime, and homelessness seems to be non-existent. Anyway here’s a couple of quotes that emphasise the conclusion of the argument presented: “Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the economic conditions we face today are more akin to those which preceded the wars than those which followed them.” “The solution is socialism and even the capitalists cannot ignore it.” Should go down well round here…

The rabble will disagree.

For every country nodding towards a greener future there will always be another going full tilt to fill the vacuum.
China for example has a fairly low mess producing rate per person. Having that headroom of a vast population producing almost no pollution allows the polluting part of that population to quote favourable numbers for the country as a whole.

The rabble will disagree. I watched another video by the same guy called 'History is Marching' which is quite thought-provoking and also shit-scary. The narrator is clearly a 'dyed-in-the-wool' Marxist-Leninist with more than a dadger of Trotsky to boot. I am not criticising, I just think such is worth bearing in mind, in much the same way that it is useful, when reading 'Lord of the Rings', to remain aware of the fact that Tolkien was a committed Anglophile (example only).

Just another old slag with a ring through her nose. Nothing wrong with that in my eyes. I'd like to clip a dog lead to that ring and lead her to my lair. Can you not restrict your comments to her views ? Her views are a steaming pile of left wing shit. I'm very much of the opinion that we need to respect, conserve and protect the ecosystem of our planet, but her movement is all about attacking the western, capitalist world. It's 100% political.

"I used to respect environmental protestors for their beliefs. Over the past 2 years I have worked on the sites of two gas wells being drilled on land in the UK. We had "environmental protestors" outside the gates most of the days They had a camp half a mile down the road. On facebook they repeatedly appealed for donations of PETROL to fuel their generator. When the rig moved and they moved, large patches of grass were dead from careless petrol spillages. The oil company had rules in place and if one wheel of any contractor vehicle were to damage a grass verge anywhere, we had stop, take photographs, record the GPS location and time of the incident and email a report.Contractors would be sent to repair the damage. The protestors turned up daily in mutiple private cars, one to a car. When they moved on, the verges outside the site were destroyed and rutted by the protestors cars. They left plastic banners, Xmas decorations festooned in the hedgerows. I no longer respect any of them."
