Just on with trying to fix my generator after serious starting/smoking issuesπ Dropped the injectors, stripped, cleaned & pressure tested ok but upon looking further, seems thereβs a stuck meter valve on injector 1feed from the pump, diesel just pouring out of the pipeπ Oh dear, looks like itβs going to turn out to be an expensive pump refurb!

Costa single use cups. Outrageous! I did the right thing and cleaned it then used it to decant a bit of diesel into the pressure testing pump from my tank, thus halving its wastefulness !π

What type of pump is it, Andy? If it's a conventional design of single or multi-element jerk pump with standard type delivery valves, there aren't any metering valves on the delivery side of the injection pump. If it's letting fuel past under only lift pump or gravity pressure, then it could be nothing more than a broken delivery valve spring, . . which would give you exactly the starting and smoking symptoms you're describing. PS: The injection pump delivery valves are just simple check valves which prevent the high pressure plunger in the pump elements from drawing fuel back out of the injector pipes as the HP plunger in the pump returns to the bottom of it's stroke after injection, and they also help the pintle valve in the injector nozzles to snap back onto it's seating smartly so as to give a clean cut-off of the fuel spray with no post-injection dribbling, . . which is a one of the common causes of black smoke in diesel exhausts.

Hi Tony...Looks to be an Avant 65136 pump, itβs fitted to a Kubota D722 generator set Iβll be looking into the pump issue next week sometime hopefully.

It is a kipor generator so you can expect issues . No good. Better to go for an old Honda or Kawasaki if you want it to work. My favourite was the Honda EX650 but that may not live up to your highlife expectations in terms of power availability on board a boat. I had an EX650 something went wrong with it that resulted in very low current but high voltage. The high voltage caused the battery charger to pop then set on fire, had to rip it out and throw it into the cut, pronto.

My kipor is also broken I haven't tried to start my Kipor since January. Hopefully it's not the third one that's broken.

My kipor is also broken I haven't tried to start my Kipor since January. Hopefully it's not the third one that's broken. Mines not broken, the pull cord snapped. It just a pain because you have to take it fully to bits to change it. But i might look at replacing it, as the build quality isnt brilliant.
