"A mum tweeted: “Three mobile network down.
Anyone who has a child with #Autism will understand the relevance of this. Really feel for those children today whose anxiety will be through the roof.” "
Yeah.

I found my favourite mole grips clamped onto the underside of a car I bought. Made in the USA, they used to make excellent tools there. I once looked at a car with brake problems that a friend had bought off some dodgy guy, one brake was clamped off with a pair of grips on the flexi hose, there were no pistons in the cylinder. Nice pair of grips though. I bought a 2 pack set, large and small, of auto adjusting grips, brilliant, just clamp, no need to fiddle with the end screw to get to size.

What type of pump is it, Andy? If it's a conventional design of single or multi-element jerk pump with standard type delivery valves, there aren't any metering valves on the delivery side of the injection pump. If it's letting fuel past under only lift pump or gravity pressure, then it could be nothing more than a broken delivery valve spring, . . which would give you exactly the starting and smoking symptoms you're describing. PS: The injection pump delivery valves are just simple check valves which prevent the high pressure plunger in the pump elements from drawing fuel back out of the injector pipes as the HP plunger in the pump returns to the bottom of it's stroke after injection, and they also help the pintle valve in the injector nozzles to snap back onto it's seating smartly so as to give a clean cut-off of the fuel spray with no post-injection dribbling, . . which is a one of the common causes of black smoke in diesel exhausts. Hi Tony...Looks to be an Avant 65136 pump, it’s fitted to a Kubota D722 generator set I’ll be looking into the pump issue next week sometime hopefully. Looks more like a Denso pump from that photo looking down on the engine and the injector pump, Andy. The Denso type is more or less the same internally as the Avanti, but the pump body/casing is a different casting with the bores that the element barrels [020 on the exploded diagram] fit into machined directly into the casting instead of fitting into the sleeve [080] with the locking pin [090] , the two setscrews [110] and the two O-rings [100]. If your luck's in, the fault you've got with smoke, starting, and fuel passing through the pump under lift pump or gravity pressure might be down to that spring [040] that sits immediately under the delivery valve holder [060] being either very weak or broken on one or more of the pump elements. There could also be bits of muck in the delivery valve itself [030], preventing the valve pintle from closing properly on to the conical seating in the valve body. The Denso pump should have 2 x pairs of serrated locking clamps securing all three delivery valve holders. The delivery valve holders have a ring of serrations immediately underneath the hexagon flats.

Hi Tony....Unfortunately, genny work has been put on hold for a few weeks with my daughter coming down and the need to not have a diesel stinking boat for her to stay on!🙄 All injectors have been cleaned, pressure tested, copper washers annealed and injectors refitted back into head ready for the pump rebuild...Ill post up when I get round to it. Cheers as always for your help! 👍
