My friend had a Dodge/Commer van with the rootes 1750 (or was it 1725?) Petrol engine in it in the 90s. That was a good bit of kit. Ex gpo I think just a panel Van not a camper. With the wheels set in. I'm sure I remember the postman using one of them when I was very little in the late 70s. Hi Maggers! You remember I said my dad had a 'Commer Imp' van - found a pic of it! Good pic Ross, hope he didn't use the car, as it looks like the left front tire is flat . Peter.

I'm don't know if there are any other photos of it. It was red, and the registration began OGJ (that's all I remember of the plate). The car ended up with a son of one of my dad's friends. I slept in that car in Rhossili on the Gower, South Wales, one night as it was bucketing down with rain and an easier option than setting the tent up (I was about 9 years old). House is Frogmore Hall, near Watton-at-Stone, Hertfordshire - my old playground; the house was empty, apart from my dad's family occupying part of the building (and my sister and brother), so we could choose any room as a camp.

We used to have a commer cob van with back seats but no back windows. We drove from Rochdale to Bath in the winter of 63, no heater, Dad constantly scraping ice of the inside of the window, me and lil Bro wrapped up in sleeping bags in the back seat. Eh we were poor, but we were appy.

I stumbled across this: "Martin Iles wrote: The article regarding Frogmore Hall brings back some memories!. Being friends, we used visit Ian Turner and his family at weekends and holidays in the mid 60’s to 70’s, as kids my brother and I would often sleep in a green caravan kept next to the barn, or in the old gun-room. I remember the dozens of empty rooms on the upper floors and a walk up a stairwell would take you to the tower roof (ex-chapel). The rabbit-blasting shotgun previously mentioned belonged to Ian Turner and was a single-barrelled Winchester Cooey 12-bore which is now in my possession (legally), he also owned a folding .410 but I don’t know what happened to that, I definitely saw a fur coat being pieced together out of rabbit-skins, and several stews being made." I don't know about a fur coat, but my dad made a fur hat out of rabbit skins/furs! I've fired those guns mentioned. My dad was sometimes driven round the grounds/fields at night by his second wife, my dad laying on the bonnet shooting rabbits. I remember eating rabbit and having to be careful of the pellets still inside the meat. www.stlqcc.org.uk/?page_id=1082

Is it only to expound the theory that money doesn't make you happy or a way of coping rather better than your sister has perhaps? Your new boat certainly makes you happy, which, dont get me wrong is lovely to read, but from your accounts on here it seems your current lifestyle benefits from that inherited wealth? I don't think there's anything wrong with enjoying inherited wealth. Not that I've had this myself, the 50 quid I got when my grandma died didn't go much further than a weekend of alcohol and speed in Ibiza.
