I may be a bit behind the loop here good folk, but I've found a compatible Fuel filter for my Canaline 42 (they are all the same by the looks of things) I HAD been paying 26 quid a pop from Calcutt boats but having had this one on for the last 400 hours, am happy enough it's doing the job. www.inlinefilters.co.uk/Filters-Fuel/SpinOn/ThreadUnknown/FIN-FF30403I've just ordered another 4 to get me through next year too. Just thought it may be useful for anyone else looking for a compatible one.

Glad you've seen the light 👍🍻 There's a daft as a brush bloke that buys genuine Bukh filters that could do with taking your advice and use a decent aftermarket filter 🙈

"We only supply quality Filter and Automotive Product Brands sourced from reputable UK Manufacturers"
Says their website. Which UK manufacturer made this one then, eh?

The only way to know about filters is to... well, know about them. See where and how they are made. Comparisons can be made by cutting them open, also. Some filters are noticeably better than others. I would happily pay less for the same as a Bukh filter so long as it is the same. But show me it is of the same or better quality, I need evidence. Well... already have in mind to order 4 Bukh filters before Christmas.

Probably made by a slimy Indian. You don't see many Indians driving boats, do you?

@gazza will know for sure, but even if the cheaper filters are less efficient, because they are much cheaper you can always change them more often and still be financially better off.
A mechanic told me many years ago that regarding oil and filters, changing both regularly is much more important than the spec/grade of oil and filter ...made sense to me then and still does.

Rog Oils cheaper than engine bits 👍 mouse subscribes to brown and slippy and she'll be right 😉 If foxy had seen the state of the 296 filter I have changed on a Perkins Electropak genset this morning he'd stop talking shit about fuel filters. The tough old perky was still running (although a bit rough and smokey it has to be said) no one told it it wasn't a genuine Lucas CAV filter that was fitted so I guess that must be why it soldiered on 🤦♂️

I think you can use a common and much cheaper filter without the bottom drain.

Rog I agree, to a point. Years ago when we used to race and rally I cut up lots of old filters to find out the best and worse. Crosland (now no more) and Ford Motorcraft were good with plenty of pleats in a good paper core well glued together. The bigger the surface area the better. In fact most were perfectly OK. However many Fram, largest maker in the world, were terrible. Some were even so badly put together that there were gaps through the core! And they had the least core contents of any. Always used felt filter inserts when we rallied Cooper Ss, no problems even with caster based oils. So I see little point in spending lots on engine makers own filters, they don't make them anyway but buy them own labeled from ant Tom Dick or Harry who gives them the best price. Same with oil.If its OK to use non synthetic and the viscosity is about right, it will do the job perfectly well till you chuck it away for fresh. Its the regular changes of oil and filters that prolong engine live not the fancy advertising or paint on the can.

Midland Chandlers, Braunston I think it was.... are Frams. I might change it this Christmas if it is warm outside, or give it the full year and do it next June.
