Just watching escape to the chateau and they are doing up a Springer Narrowboat, as yet I am not sure if its an improvement or not only time will tell.
I am not sure about painting the walls Londonish white though, most certainly took the boaty bit away for me. What escapes me though is why he is putting the batteries on the bank for? clearly no idea about boats at all

Come on - even a muppet like me knows you need a bank full of batteries if you want lighting etc.

A lad was doing up a Springer on Amazing Spaces and decided to remove all the ballast so he could drop the floor for a bit more headroom. Phil double it in 10mm and you have it back I remember seeing some very springer-like wifebeams shells with inch thick base plates. A couple of them at a boatyard somewhere I think was Highline yachting in Iver. Early 90s. Don't know what happened to them but it got me thinking about the welding and how the bottoms might fall off.

I love the programme, but sometimes both Dick and his soulmate are completely impractical. I would love to see an episode showing all the cock-ups they have made.

Given that it's on his moat, and never going to go anywhere, I suspect it's more about creating extra commercial accomodation outside the death-grip of French beaurocracy. Boaty stuff isn't really that relevant. Apart from the hole near the waterline ..

Apart from the hole near the waterline .. In fullness of time he may well realise the error of that....
