Kipor IG770 3 years old, maybe 300 hours use. Tried to start it yesterday, wasn't having it. Had a look this morning... compression is fine. Sparks OK. Air filter is clean. I didn't take the carb off, would have had to take the whole machine apart but established that fuel was getting through. In desperation I squirted a bit of easy start up the air intake. It ran straight away, and has now run for an hour, perfectly.
Any ideas what the problem might have been, and/or what servicing I might do to stop this happening again?

A bit of rubbish in the carb jetting? Maybe the starting up process sucked it through. Could have just been random.
Might be worth taking the fuel tank off and giving it a clean also drop the carb float bowl and clean out.

Has it stood for long ? fuel needing priming? Is it kept outside ? just bloody cold and damp ? How old is the fuel ? no engine expert here but just my thoughts

I have a larger Kipor. Normally it starts really well. But if it is left for a long time, it takes many pulls to start it. I think it is down to the type of carburettor and fuel pumping arrangement, seems to take a lot to fill the carb if it has emptied due to evaporation etc. especially if the weather is cold. I suspect there isnβt much wrong with yours, maybe just a lack of use?

Cheers for the replies. I use it most days, hadn't since Sunday though. The last time I used it I ran it dry. I've done that before without problems but I'm wondering if this was something to do with it?

Itβs a good point though because as I said I found when I hadnβt used it for a while it was difficult to start, but when I ran it dry it didnβt take many pulls to get it going. Obviously it has a mind of its own!

Another possibility is the carb float was a bit sticky and loosened up with the vibration caused by the motor starting on the easy start.
I'm not personally a fan of running carbs dry unless the thing is going to be stored for weeks or more.

My Tuk Tuk has gone for a swim in the floods I had a quick play yesterday and it has a spark on one plug [double plug engine] and fuel to the plugs [wet plugs] the question is though is it petrol or water? I am draining the tank tomorrow and refilling with fresh petrol, plus strip and clean the carb with luck it should be ok. Those crafty indians made the engine water tight and easy to repair

A bit of redex in the tank once every couple of months? I have the big kipor with electric start, and I use one of those foam kitchen scourers as an air filter. Seems to work better than the factory one. Less restrictive air flow.
