There are big big calls this year that as a business we should close boxing day too.
It will gather momentum and hopefully one year they will take note.

We've been preparing for weeks now and with a bit of luck it should all come together on Xmas day. I only have one task ahead of me and that is to make the Chestnut Stuffing, don't ask for the recipe because if I tell you I'd have to kill you We have Merlot, Pino Grigio, Buds and mulled wine together with a huge range of spirits MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL!! All at home xmas eve for the first time in years. Bit of a buffet and movie night. Xmas day at her mums and I think I now have to work boxing day 2 till 8. However will have to spend the day alone at home. Thats what I'm trying to avoid this year..the alone bit at home I can cope any other time of year solo but somehow I do not like alone over the Christmas week.... I feel as if I'm being punished...stupid really.

A lot of Christmases over the years have been spent at sea or working but when that happens there is a lot going so you don't have time to dwell on things. To have a solitary Christmas day without work forcing it, must be harder. I'm not sure how I would manage, I suspect I would just stay busy with something. Generally I cope quite well with solitude.

Hey Patty, you won't be alone because I will be here,I will be online on and off during the day ( culinary duties allowing) so if you have a mind to just message me and I'll be there. Love, Phil

I'm not meant to be working but my store manager and a team leader have both been signed off eight through till next year. I've had to do 16 hour days to keep my store open.
Not impressed so I have applied to go work at the local depot and get out of stores.
It doesn't help that even with promotion I am not earning any more.

So much 'good will' is assumed and taken for granted working in retail ... glad I only do 12 weeks a year.
There's some terrific people but I find the management is weak and haphazard.

Rog I'm not weak. Not that I think you are suggesting that. I just happen to be in a small store. With 10 colleagues. There isn't anyone to help cover the 70 missing management hours. However yes the layer above is weak because there are 16 other stores who could easily help and no one is forcing the issue instead I fo down as the whiny one who is constantly asking for help. I am going to enjoy Christmas with my family. My 40th is coming up in 2 and a bit weeks so maybe it's a good time to reevaluate where I am. Who knows, in a few months I could be eating yorkies and murdering prostitutes.

Ive got to work boxing day, as im working in an Aldi warehouse at the moment. The thing with jobs now adays is even though im working for an agency, because im handy the management keep trying to put more and more work and responsibility onto me. It got to the point where ive had to say No, they dont like it though. But fortunately like Rog im not looking for a full time job and wont be signing a contract with them.
