Obviously if you spend a lot of time on boats it's worth being able to swim for emergency reasons.
Or just avoid emergencies.
I suspect there are a large number of boaters who either can't swim or might be able to if their life depended on it.
I'm on the second group. Would not like to try it as it is so unnatural.

Start with a bath and see how you go.

I can swim but I haven't been swimming for years. Did that Bronze survival thing when I was at school though I doubt very much I could do it now.

I wonder if it's like riding a bike.
Obviously we had quite a large pool in the garden when I was little so I did do swimming and also did a bit in the Thames later on when we moved to a Riverside house but as an adult I have never really been in a situation where I would need to swim.
Seems completely pointless to do it unless required but living on boats does make it quite interesting as a backup option.

It's not necessary on 90% of the cut. If you fall in stand up.

It's not necessary on 90% of the cut. If you fall in stand up. There once was a chap named Jim Who decided to go for a swim He fell off his boat Still wearing his coat And noticed the water was grim.

It's not necessary on 90% of the cut. If you fall in stand up. Or stand on the nearest shopping trolley and await rescue.

phil70Apparently it's an anti-footwear movement. Going back to nature and all that. Not normally something one looks at but if you do take the time to check it you will find there are a lot of adherents to this philosophy driving boats.
