My sister has been reporting a worrying scratching sound, beginning in the morning through to the late evening, in her sealed up chimbly. This weekend, I went to stay there to see if I could hear it too, after suffering a few seconds of my normal scratching in the early morning (usually my arse and / or my balls!!) I did indeed hear some random scratching/scurrying noises. So, what is it likely to be?
Starlings roosting? Random rodents (rats or squirrels or a trapped cat)? Homeless folk? Subsidence?
Secondly if it is starlings, how would she get them out before capping the chimbly pots with balloon mesh & without trapping any birds in there?
if its rodents, how does she remove them without said rodents deciding βif we can't have the chimbly we'll takeover the house insteadβ π±
Anyone suffered / dealt with any similar infestations?

Have you suffered from a death watch beetle infestation or are you suggesting thats causing the scratching? How would she deal with such a plague of insects ?

Perhaps it's a small boy left there by a sweep? A by product of tory misrule, returning to former glory and better times.

There are a lot of small scrotes that deserve exactly that punishment ...... stick em in the chimney and if they're not quick enough light a fire in the grate (pour encourager les autres)

We had noises behind woodwork in one of our garages when I was a kid. There was talk of it being death watch beetle. I have not personally suffered any property ownership in my lifetime so definitely not an expert.
