It becoming obvious that the CWDF topic: ‘Boater sues CaRT’ will remain frozen and locked on that site [and in the natural course of things disappear from readily accessible view], I am placing the essential historical material to date on here, and will update as things progress.
The genesis of the current events was memorialised in a YouTube video of confrontation over the seizure at Newark Marina [repeatedly taken down, so link may end up broken]: -
The furore and publicity over the video had led to debate on CWDF, and a member of the Forum put Leigh’s helper in touch with me, to see what I could to help. For so long as the thread survives, the debate can be found here, on a long locked 33 page thread “Best pay your CRT licence”: -
www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=73581&page=1
Initial reaction, typified by a poster who signature read: “The validity of ones argument should always be tested by constructive debate and analysis” was: “Sadly it’s idiots like these that illustrate perfectly the problems faced by CRT . . .”
It was after some 25 pages of discussion that Tracy Nicols [on advice from StarUKKiwi] signed in as the person helping Leigh by acting as go-between to CaRT, and who ended up contacting me directly. The thread fizzled into irrelevancies and was locked by request of several posters, but while that was heading into oblivion, Tracy and Leigh had been spending hours with me preparing his case.
Details of the preliminary history and early skirmishes are something I may fill in later, but as was reported by narrowboatworld, a Claim was eventually filed with the Royal Courts of Justice in London. The nbw article was picked up and posted on CWDF under the topic: “Boater sues CaRT”, and ran until recently, with updates on the case provided as they became available. The saga with relevant details and discussion can still be read there: -

On the off-chance that the thread could be hidden away for ever, as happened with probably the most interesting of the topics I contributed to, I pdf’d the whole thread, so that it can be published if CWDF ever removes it from their site. In the meantime, it remains visible and the links to the main documentation therein will work.
Mostly, these take you to the ‘scribd’ site wherein I publish most of such information as a resource for those interested.
I will keep this thread updated as things progress; hopefully more hearings transcripts will be made available too. It will be noted from the remarks made by Chief Master Marsh - in the judgment published by Jenlyn in the first posting under this topic - that he recognised the value to boaters of having such a resource of material online. It is a great pity that the site in receipt of such jurisprudential recognition of its value, should have decided to cease providing that value, but hopefully that can be continued under the banner of this site. Full value will only come, however, if CaRT also can be persuaded to continuously monitor such topics.
I did think seriously of emailing debbifiggy and recommending that she take up observational duties here also, but perhaps that is a task best left to more moderate posters, whose suggestion might be more readily read as the genuine invitation my communication would have been. Somewhere along the line I appear to have been tarred forever with the brush of an entirely undeserved reputation, and nobody in CaRT is prepared to realise that my earnest wish is for their betterment, rather than for their continuing to merit vilification; they have refused to speak with me for years.
