I have also posted this basic information CWDF in Historic section as I suspect quite a few who lurk there don't visit here.
The Humber barge Taurus has just arrived at a boatyard in Benfleet Essex (Thames estuary) She was towed down from the Humber and has spent the last few days on a mooring in Hadleigh Ray (about a mile off the seafront of Southend on Sea)
She has a large unfinished steel cabin fitted and is apparently here to have more work done, fitting windows etc with the intention of being moved further up the Thames afterwards.
I'll get some photos later and post them (if I can work out how to post bigger than postage stamps on here )

Just been looking up Taurus....Alan Pease site has the stern section of a Humber barge Taurus for sale with a new bow. I have just walked along and looked at the Taurus that has arrived here, It's quite short and the bow looks like old original plating, I wonder if this is the front section of the same barge.....intriguing !!!
I'll have to do a bit of research

Big boats to say the least, I have heard a rumor that the old Humber Pride is now the Exon Pride and is going to start running again past me on the SSYN I hope so as I do miss that big boat

well that sort of worked but then I got locked out of the system for 10 minutes !!!#
I did take a picture of the stern but it didn't come out too well ......I wasn't that impressed when I had a close look to be honest, it is basically a round stern, very plain.

I got an idea of the length as it was being towed up the creek by comparing it with the workboat towing and she was quite short so I was guessing. It was when I walked along the jetty that I realised how big the beam was !!! I am not very keen on the cabin now I have had a better look, it's out of proportion and too "blocky". The front of it looks like it's going to have a large patio door fitted, I suppose as a houseboat it's fine and will be pleasant to use. It's just working boats that are too altered somehow upset me.....crazy I know but I feel it is demeaning to an honest practical vessel. The new stern on her is rather crude and shapeless........I do hope the new owner doesn't read this, but it is honestly what I feel

We have limited file hosting space so I have limited image size and upload capabilities. To put larger images here it is best to use an image host like Imgur.com

I can't work out how to transfer pictures from Flickr.....I uploaded the ones of Taurus onto the site and I transferred them to CWDF thread, but it doesn't work when I try here Grrrrrrr!!
I just have to accept I'm a technically incompetent dinosaur
And what pisses me of even more is the fact that earlier in this thread I posted photo's from Flickr......and I can't remember how I did it !!!!!Attachment Deleted
