They must have got sick of that question. Poms can go through the automated gates now😊 Have things changed in Oz immigration then because we had a massive wait at Brisbane airport in 2013 while all the Oz and New Zealanders were processed rapidly through a few gates and our queue was through just one gate? Eventually, when all the locals had been processed they put one of the guys from the Oz gates onto our queue which speeded it up a little. We had such a long wait that the guy asking about any incoming food, wood and muddy shoes etc worked his way down our queue to save time later. Roger Haven't been through Brisbane since 2007 or 8. In Perth (since last year at least), the new automated gates can be used by UK passport holders amongst others, instead of queueing up to be processed by immigration officials (still required by some nation passport holders). All departures are automated unless there is a problem, in which case the individual is re-routed via an official. What hasn't changed is the quarantine / customs inspection after you pass through immigration, if 2 or more flights arrive at the same time the backlog can be horrendous while they determine who's bag needs to be searched and who can pass straight through with out an inspection, the presence of significant numbers of migrants, or a flight from an exotic destination can further prolong this process.
