Call the Police, Health & Safety,or Council, but they didn't stop this cargo on the A 40 Photo taken in East Lancashire in the 1950's after she had been bought by Croasdales for coal carrying between Burnley, Skipton and Blackburn. How many people on board? A40 now cruises in France but has had some canopy conversion work the last time I saw it to protect the steerer from the sun. I'm not sure that I like the look of it with the conversion but I can understand why it was done. Roger

Roger Hi Roger, did the canopy look the same as it's on this photo made in Belgium by Alain Pascal (in 2011 afaik) ?

Yes, that was it Peter. It looked a bit amateurish IMO and I can't remember if it was fitted in a temporary way so that it could be quickly and easily restored to the previous appearance. We met the then owners on A40 many years back (possibly 2006 ish) when we were cruising on the L&L getting back to our home mooring with our narrowboat. I'm not sure if it is the same owners now who have taken A40 over to the continent or new ones. Roger

I believe it's the same owners of A40, unless it's changed hands while on the continent.

I believe it's the same owners of A40, unless it's changed hands while on the continent. Roy Gibbons knows the owners, he wrote many months ago : "Indeed, owners contacted me just prior to Christmas 2015 informing me the previous owner had died.
He had owned the boat over 25 years since 1972 after the cessation of Westwood Power Station traffic".
So the actual owners owned the boat already while she was still in the UK.
Peter.

No its peculiar because to me it's green, but a lot of people see it as grey. I think it's something to do with it being a Matt finish. I dont know I have painted hundreds of vehicles nato matt green and they were all greener than that I think someone has mixed something in it?

Thank God for that, it sometimes seems as though it's the only paint they sell in Chandlers judging by the amount of boats painted that colour! The boat earlier in this thread with the blue superstructure looks good, the low cabin to gunwale height gives these boats a nice purposeful line.

I agree about the low cabin, unfortunately mines got a silly raised floor in it and the roofline is much higher. I intend to do something about it at some stage but it is well down the list of jobs. I'm really happy that Wye has gone to a new owner that will look after it. It was owned by a friend of mine that got ill and died and has just been sat rotting for the last few years. Which isn't good for any boat.

Oh well I'm quite happy with the finish anyway so I suppose I can live with it When I first painted Sabina it was with ex navy paint available in large tins of upperworks Grey and signal red and green, all at £5.00 per tin (slightly out of date) (well quite a lot really) I liked the effect so when the cheap stuff ran out I bought some from a paint company that was listed as RN Tropical Grey ........ it ain't the same Oddly. I see it as grey but quite a few people reckon its blue !

Same reason I used this paint John, cheap. I'll see if it's as hard wearing as the grey floor paint It had on before. Funny really as I wanted to get away from grey but have ended up with a greyey/green. Oh we'll as I say I can live with it for now. Paint for me on a boat is primarily for protection anyway.

Same for me but I do wash and polish because it puts off the day when I have to paint it again................
