I've just got home today for the first time in three months, the first thing my girlfriend said was "God, you stink of coal", so I'm guessing if it's on my clothes it's probably also in my lungs... Would have been so much nicer after 3 months if she'd said, "God, I'm so happy to see you, and because of my happiness I don't tell you that you stink of coal".
Well, I suppose that after a good shower and some clean clothes, everything was fine again.
But you better be careful with this coal-dust, it's no good for you, or anyone else.
Peter.

Thing is most of this manufactured stuff that comes in brickettes isnt really coal!! Its a mixture of petroleum by products, cement dust oh and a bit of coaldust!!! Having Googled "Winterblaze", it seems that this is exactly what it is, oil refinery waste mixed with a cement dust binder. I am 100% certain that it was the cause of the problem, and I certainly won't be burning any more. I've got eight bags of the noxious crap left, if anyone wants them then feel free to help yourself. See also John Jacksons' site: www.coalboat.co.uk/fuels-available.htmlScroll down to Winterblaze .. ';Red/Winterblaze Red is a cheap, "bottom of the market” economy ovoid, also sold as “Winterblaze” in some areas. It is a large ovoid, almost identical in shape to several other “economy” ovoids. This fuel is not authorised for use in smoke-controlled areas.' I guess there's a reason for that.

I'm trying a few different coals at the moment and some are better than others although I've largely moved to burning logs.

Big fan of Taybrite myself, both on the back cabin stoves on the rare occasions I use them and in the fire pit at home.

Ref dust and respiratory problems. Chris has COPD and in an effort to do the best for her I purchased a room HEPA, filter. The results were amazing, our saloon when cleaned and dusted would very quickly display a light coating of dust (and dog dander) but once the filter was on use it was about 3 weeks before any signs of dust appeared. Regular cleaning of the filter is necessary, sadly it has not seemed to help Chris's breathing but has reduced the housework. I guess she was unlucky because I know of people who do benefit from this kit. Phil
