So with the intention of trying to make sure I don't get any xmas presents that just get put on the pile of things to get rid of, I thought I'd try suggesting what people should buy me (don't buy me anything doesn't work).
I was thinking about suggesting canal guide books, are Nicolson guides the best or Pearsons, or something else.
Happy for other suggestions but they need to be fairly low value ones, definitely less than £20

Depends on who you ask on our boat..."im @ the back" swears by the Nicolsons, I prefer the Pearsons - we both use the tiller btw so it's not necessarily who's steering and who's sitting up front that makes the difference. Other things you could suggest.... Multi pack of condoms - seen a video on FB the other day, if you have a phone that's not water proof and would like to have it with you when at the tiller in the rain - simply pop it in a condom, tie a knot in the open end and presto... you've got a water proof phone If you get Extra Large, it might also on a small tablet You can never have enough tourches or headlamps A small cast iron pot for the wood stove A cast iron trivet for the top of the wood stove - to sit your pot on (used for a gentle simmer, rather than a full on cook/boil) Warm & toasty slippers with a good solid bottom sorry...can't think of much more at present.

I like the Nicholsons for route planning & the Pearsons for the interesting info & pretty piccies.😊

I have about 30 mugs, and if I don't do something before xmas that number is likely to go up. Can I interest you in buying a number of used mugs for your new venture? Good luck by the way.

How about a head torch, Amazon vouchers which you can use to buy books for your Kindle, Twenty quids worth of Fire Lighters.

Yes, head torch, in fact any type of torch, you can never have too many torches on a boat. Also smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, both cheap but invaluable.

Huh Betty, you've pinched all my ideas. A compass can be useful for lining up the TV aerial. Phil

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I'm going to suggest the Nicholson guides. If anyone ignores the suggestion and buys me another pair of bloody slippers they will be excommunicated.

Twenty quids worth of Fire Lighters. Bit of a sore point but a chance to bring this up. Whether your wood burner is in a house or a boat please make sure that if you are stacking logs near it to help dry them make sure they are far enough away from the stove, even if the pile collapses a bit.

When we got married we asked for money and other suitable items that we kept a record of then spent a day in Manchester handing out everything out to the homeless that we met. It was awesome to share the love and the wedding guests who contributed appreciated the email I sent with the update. To be honest we will do it again, we made friends that day that we wouldn't have met otherwise.
