Rick on Auriga regularly goes past my house, so I flag him dowm whenever I need fuel. I only buy elsewhere if I need fuel when out and about.

I get my coal from NB Roach. If I'm at work I just leave the money out somewhere and he drops it off, stacks it up etc. www.coalboat.co.uk/index.html

Mark on Callisto aka Starclass Carrying Co. Hes runs between Warwick and Market Harborough, Fazeley and Fradley and Hawkesbury and also covers the Ashby Canal. canalcarrying.com/wordpress/We always support these guys where we can as they work in all weathers and very long days! You might even come across Royalty Fuels sometimes but Mike Askin roams around where the fancy takes him

Another vote for Brian and Anne Marie on NB Alton. They are up and down the Macc and Peak Forest every 2 weeks, rain or shine, regular as clockwork. There's another coal boat on the Macc, plies his trade of approx. 5 bags of coal a week either at Poynton, or Whaley Bridge. Moorings that he sees as his own personal possessions. I don't buy off him, neither do many others.

Ironically, according to the other side, Lock 13 has now closed due to lack of use! the Internet Boaters' Database has now been discontinued, as very few people had been sending updates. Such a shame, but perhaps an opportunity for others to take it over? www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=88327&hl=Nipper

If your new to boating and haven't met or used any of the fuel boats before, I would highly recommend you do so. Firstly it is sooo convenient to have bags of coal delivered directly to the roof of your boat, secondly it saves the hassle of getting your boat into and out of marina's for taking on diesel (especially if your on a widebeam like us) & thirdly in most cases they are actually cheaper for gas/coal & wood than the marina's. Added to the fact they are out there in all kinds of weather, all year round plying their trade, keeping to their schedules.....they are boaters like the rest of us. They have a wealth of information especially regarding "their patch" of the canals. Most provide diesel, coal, wood & bottles of gas along with a range of other smaller items, Brasso, stuff to pour down your loos, some do fenders ect. For the Grand Union I would recommend... Jules Fuels (Richard & Jules) from Apsley Marina up past Braunston marina - just google Jules Fuels for contact details and further info on what they supply and a more detailed description of the area they cover. M and P canal carrying company (Mary & Phil) covering from Cowley Peachey up to Milton Keynes - just google M and P canal carrying company for contact details and further info on what they supply and a more detailed description of the area they cover. We have regularly used both of the above companies, and found their service, pricing & customer service to be Excellent. Hopefully others will be along shortly to recommend their choice of fuel boats.

And actually for the record I recommend all fuel boats. They work damned hard and only the most severe weather stops them getting through..

Absolutely.
Didn't really know her, having only spoken on a couple of occasions we passed by, but she seemed a lovely lady.
Just stumbling across the opening post was initially a bit of a jolt, but then a reminder of Betty.
