Hi All,
I've just been looking on CanalPlanAC for our upcoming holiday.
The route and itinerary are as follows.
Total distance is 33.79 miles and 38 locks. There are at least 10 small aqueducts or underbridges and 2 tunnels (including Foulridge Tunnel. ).
This is made up of 33.79 miles of broad canals; 38 broad locks.
This will take 17 hours, 11 minutes which is 2 days, 3 hours and 11 minutes at 7 hours per day. For initial calculation purposes (before adjusting for such things as overnight stops) this is taken as 2 days of 7 hours and 35 minutes each (after allowing 2 hours total for the first night and last morning).
Overnight stopping places
This is calculated based on 1 hour travelling before the first overnight stop, 3 full days travelling and 1 hour travelling on the last day.
Travel starts on Monday the 31st of October, 2016 at Reedley Marina.
On average each full day will be approximately 7 hours and 35 minutes travelling but you have set some places as overnight stops and some overnight stops have been moved to avoid unsuitable stopping places; this has affected the lengths of the days. The shortest day is 1 hour and 31 minutes and the longest is 7 hours and 34 minutes (the maximum day-length is set at 8 hours).
Monday the 31st of October, 2016 [Partial first day of trip] (sunrise is 7:07 AM, sunset is 4:36 PM)
On the the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Main Line - Wigan to Leeds), at Swinden Aqueduct No 35. This is 3.30 miles and 0 locks and will take 1 hour.
Tuesday the 1st of November, 2016 [First full day of trip] (sunrise is 7:09 AM, sunset is 4:34 PM)
On the the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Main Line - Wigan to Leeds), at Barrowford Visitor Moorings (as instructed). This is 0.89 miles and 7 locks and will take 1 hour 31 minutes. You will pass through Barrowford Locks.
Wednesday the 2nd of November, 2016 [Second full day of trip] (sunrise is 7:11 AM, sunset is 4:31 PM)
On the the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Main Line - Wigan to Leeds), at Gargrave Visitor Moorings (as instructed). (Having turned at Gargrave Winding Hole).
This is 12.75 miles and 12 locks and will take 6 hours 5 minutes. You will pass through Foulridge Tunnel, through Greenberfield Locks and through Bank Newton Locks [see navigational note 3 below].
Thursday the 3rd of November, 2016 [Third full day of trip] (sunrise is 7:13 AM, sunset is 4:30 PM)
On the the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Main Line - Wigan to Leeds), at Swinden Aqueduct No 35. This is 13.55 miles and 19 locks and will take 7 hours 35 minutes. You will pass through Bank Newton Locks [see navigational note 3 below], through Greenberfield Locks, through Foulridge Tunnel and through Barrowford Locks.
Friday the 4th of November, 2016 [End of last morning of trip] (sunrise is 7:15 AM, sunset is 4:28 PM)
On the the Leeds and Liverpool Canal (Main Line - Wigan to Leeds), at Reedley Marina. This is 3.30 miles and 0 locks and will take 1 hour.
As a complete novice to this boating lark I think this may be a bit of a tall order, especially the Thursday which includes 19 locks...
I was just wondering what the more experienced of you think?
Any route suggestions / alterations would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
