This `Wee Project` thread is about my boat build not a selling thread ( not being be nasty ) Yep the Creighton. Good boats but that is cack for the money and damage. I miss my old one.

This `Wee Project` thread is about my boat build ...then you, of all people, should have spotted it! I have slow days now and then and T is now keeping an eye on me and looking at projects lol. I have been busy as well with this one today doing bits and boobs and now off to bed as bloody pooped. Getting to the age when after a few pints I cant keep up the day after I think

After a long naff day at work I am now chilling out, no work being done on the boat tonight or for the next few weeks...if can help it. Have to admit it got me down this weekend with the bloody leak in the cabin top again I though i had sorted it but nope. It is dripping from where the new hatch surround meets the old aperture. I have got an idea to try and find where it is coming in by working section by section I will DPM sheet and gaffer tape a few square foot at a time to help narrow down the search area. I have a feeling it is the area behind the hatch, if I find it is there, infact where ever it is and I can pinpoint it ( unlikely ) I will fill it as per usual. If it is not posiible to pinpoint the hole then i will Flowcoat the whole area. Some thing i was not wanting to do a sit is a long tedious job. One excuse for resting from doing the boat is this Saturday me and T are off for a near 600 mile drive to collect the project and stop off at Gazza`s as he has been an amazing chap again and donated an engine for the boat. Gazza is a chap that restores my faith in people Cheers kida I ow you big time Now this is all the bits I have done. The Houdini seals have failed, i tried Creeping Crack a good few times but it didnt last so it is a choice of a new one ( at that price i think not ) or find another typeto fit which is the 50x50. there area few types around but all expensive. First choice is the try to reseal it. Easy part is disassembling it. A few clamps to sprad the frame. Not to much though as you dont want to buckle it but just enough to get the glass out. Wedge it open then the other way Easy.....once i got my finger from trapping it between the frame and glass duh The frame will stay open a little but as said need to be carfull bot to buckle it. lots of small ally screws to remove carefully This is the expensive seal at £35 but there are others that can be used. This wasnt in bad knick but still i removed it and will get a new one. Onc ethe glass seal is removed the channel will need cleaning out. A small wire wjeel in a drill does the job perfic Clean the frame with acetone I have missed out the disaster i had with the using a new U section rubber seal as it was not going to plan at all. The seal would not stay in place so nothing to lose i spaced out the frame with 4mm SS screws cut down. This keeps the glass central when the frame is closed back up. Pigin nora, cant find the rest of my pics Well to explain, a blob of sealant to hold the spacers in place, two each side in the channel. Fill the channel with sealant and slide the glass in. messy but if you use enough sealant I am sure it will work. I sat it on a tub and pushed down the frame onto the glass, not a lot but enough the push out a little sealant to make sure it is all covered. I will leave it to set for a few days then trim back and clean back with a stanly blade. ill be back, i need to go shopping

Back again and a little prezzie for Gazza Now then the galley. I had to make some adjustments to the oven casing as I was going to by a sheet of brushed SS to line out. I decided to be a tight git and use the one that came of the boat when i ripped it out. yes something was salvageable. If it wasnt aluminium I dont think of would of made the years sat in the field though. It has a spacing in 16mm tothe casing then a further 12mm to the wooden case. Plenty of all round ventilation at the bottom. It will not need a gimbal kit so i will be fixing it down with the brackets to fix solid. I will be still getting some SS sheet to make a riser around the hob uptothe gunnel and back part of that will go all thw way up between the windows to the eyeball down light. A splash back in all effects. The only other thing I had a go at is making a Bow point. I want to do it from SS and build in a Bow roller. That didnt go to well as the 4mm ply I was using to make the template kept on breaking so I gave that up for now. So thats about it for now.

Nothing has yet been done on the cruiser but I will be later as yesterday we popped down to Gazza`s as he has donated an engine and parts now to the build. ( cant be greatull enough ) That was along with a bloody great roll of Combo matt for another project we picked up. Good job we have an estate LOL. The other project is a dinghy mould which we collected from Grays, it is around 10x4, not measured it yet. It is not to bad a mould. He said it was perfect ready to use but I guess my perfect is different from other folks. It has a little crazing in one area about 8inch diameter. And old repairs do have a little roughness about quarter inch by half inch long in two areas. Easy fettle thoiugh. Over all I am happy with it. I need to clean out the pound area of all car rubbish/parts and garage panels before I can put it in there. for now its at my friends over the road. Dont forget Gazza if you want one I will be happy to nock one up for you FOC The chap I got it off is a Marine Surveyor and he said that he has made over 20 dinghys from it and found that two 650g is plenty. keeps the weight down to less than 20kg and still strong. I was surprised a si would of gone wiht al teast three 650grm with more on the keel and stress areas. I maywell add a buoyancy tank in the center in the built in seat which I will making a mould for. I am off now to pinch a wheelie bin so i can sort the engine out

Update on things. I must be mad but hey ho Since i got the boat and dont like to paint GRP boats i have wanted to Topcoat it. BIG job but as i have spent more money than i care to admit and as some have seen the boat and the time i have put into it i think it is best if i go ahead and bite the bullet and give it a complete all over Topcoat. I know the pain it is just to get a good finish as i have made a few Carbon fiber dash boards for kit cars. This will need a complete strip back again to bare GRP but this time a paint stripper will be used as i did with the antifoul last year. Reason i want to Topcoat is the thought of any dodgy areas below the water line. Although i will be going over it with a fine tooth comb after all the repairs are done and get it as good as i can. So wish me luck, Plan is i will get the trailer sorted and get as much of the fit out done then drag it up to my brothers who has a workshop i can do it in over a few days and i will be spraying it. All prep will be done here at home over the next few months. Not sure what to do about the deck fittings yet if to leave them on and Topcoat around them like the windows aswell. Top rails will have to stay now as the bolts have been lined over internally but the Bow rail and Cleats can be removed and refitted later. Windows could come out, just not keen on that. But for that decision i have benn buying more bits to finish the plumbing and fuel tanks and fittings toget the engine sorted so bits have been done. Looking forward to it for some mad reason.

wow! that's a big job, but, i will save you from being a slave to the paint brush like me! hows things going kida, getting closer to wetting the hull again for you hey After a few days of more thinking and readng up on doing a topcoat i have chickend out i think and swaygn towards epoxy instead. I thought it would have been easier and better to spray so less work afterwards but nah. Still, i have just won a compressor cheap so that will make it easier to prep it for the coating of choice. And stlll no slave to the brush this time The fuel tanks and fittings arrived today so now i can get stuck into the engine and fettle that :0 Along with the rest of the plumbing. Now the seepage I have a plan to see if i can find where the water is getting in. It may work it may not but no harm or loss in trying. I was going to use a car tyre pup but i dont think it will have the umph to do it. I will get a steel plate a bit larger by a few inch, than the area where the water is coming in and fit a 1/4BSP tail to attach an air line to from the compressor. This will be fixed in place with Sikaflex over the hole, fit an air lie wiht a valve of some sort to adjust the flow so i dont blow a hole int he boat and adjust bit by bit while i run water over areas of the cabin to see if any bubbles show hey ho we find the leak easy peasey lol. we will see.

Not a lot going on but bits of this and that. I collected the compressor on Friday and found it needed a bit of a fettle. It has a faor output of 3HP motor and 11CFM on a 50l tank, single phase and doesnt blow fuses on a 13amp plug. Although i have a 16amp set up to wire up if need be as the welder could do with it when i build the trailer. I would of preffered a bigger tank but it will do, I have sprayed cars with a much small er tank and spec. Filter is goosed And oil was low so I changed the oil, I have some 10W40 spare so I used that. Viewing glass was a bit manky and why they have the sump drain so flush you have trouble to drain oil and not get it running all over i dont know. In the end i just placed a shallow tub under the tank and let it rub down and into it. So fixed the filter case with some epoxy glue and Duct tape. for the filter edia i used and off cut of a car wash sponge Now that is not exactly boat`y but is needed for the project so see if it will help find the seepage. And i can now spray the boat. If only the hull. Today I did a bit more plumbing but I ran out of pipe to finish the hot water. Bit n bobs arrived the other day. To help put a nice bend in the pipe i used a hot air gun to soften it and once in place hold in for a moment so it holds the curve you want and not kink. You will see here i have added a vertical clear tube to see the tank levels. Still a few bits to do as said the hot water pipe needs finishing and a cap/tap/breather for the water level pipe.

Ah forgot this bit I wanted the frame the deck hatch but weather has been bad and not stopped raining to do so. therefore I fitted a pull/lift ring in the workshop in the dry These are a bit high for floor fitting at 10mm so I fitted the flush. Just a matter to mark out for the cut and drill for the mounting holes Drill out for the corner radius Then with a grinder and plasma disc cut the out sides as dont want to ruin the chisels and chisel out. I made the depth a few mm deeper so then i can seal it with epoxy and then Sikaflex 219 I had some 316 screws but the heads were alittle to big do after a grind down they fitted nice. Onc ethe epoxy had set i smootherd with Sikalfex 219 to bed the pull ring down and seal from water ingress. The washers are 316 SS and to be a stand off. So now need a good day to fit the frame. And deck drains.
