Edited out - way out of context here, should have used a quote.

As I understand it a Katwijker is more or less the same as a LuxeMotor but without the LUXury of a stern skippers cabin (arguably not necessary anyway on a cruising barge with a full cabin over the hold)

It's described as a non-navigable 69 ft Leeds to Sheffield barge. WTF is one of them? And the vendors are an estate agent .. Do you mean Par bold linked to by Kris earlier on?

Can Old hire boats now be classed as classic? One of my favourite boats has always been the old Harborough hull. The high window smasher bow, open cruiser stern with no rail, Lister SR and composite top. My first Narrowboat (not the pic) was a 50' Harborough ex Anglo Welsh 1973 SR3

Is the photo of the Welford arm lock?
Must admit, I always thought the Harborough hire boats were solid as tanks.

My first Narrowboat (not the pic) was a 50' Harborough ex Anglo Welsh 1973 SR3 Its funny they are called window smashers because my mum who used to have a narrow boat and cruised with me (on my own narrow boat) over a number of years in the 90s and 00s actually had a window smashed by a harboro Marine nb. It was moored at the time. In Fox's marina in cambs. Mum was going into the marina for diesel and got blown onto the offending vessels bows which did in fact smash the window. I replaced it (channel glaze jobbie) as the frame was a bit damaged and it was a good opportunity to put in a sliding opening window instead which was a good improvement anyway

Yes thanks for that .this is what boating forums are for - sharing knowledge and information about a common interest that being boats. Keep it going And thanks also for pointing out the Stielsteven meaning straight stem I didn't know that. I'm off to find a link to my favourite Katwijker which is for sale In your previous message you wrote "Steilsteven" right, but here you exchanged the positions of the "e" and the "i", which isn't a real problem as one still understands what you wanted to write (I suppose).
"Steilstevens" were the last barges built as sailing barges, with their bow a bit like a "Luxemotor", only much more bluff, a lot easier to build than a Tjalk, their stern still looked very much like a Tjalk.
Here is a link to a "Katwijker" that's for sale fairly cheap, if you can find a mooring for her she could quickly earn the investment back, by supplying accomodation for groups.
They didn't seem to have used any insulation, and hardly any wood panelling either :

I've known that barge for about 20 years, she's moored about 50 kms from where I am, on a quiet canal.
The owner wasn't able to live on her anymore because of his rapidly deteriorating health.
Last time I cruised past her 3 weeks ago, she didn't look as nice as on the photos.
