Not necessarily Bettie, I have been in contact with WF by PM on CWDF very recently pressing for a more transparent and sensible modding policy and have received very sensible replies and a surprising degree of concurrence with my views despite the reputation that she seems to have, as expressed by some on here. I will not, obviously, divulge the contents of my PMs but I think we should watch this space to be honest. It is true though, in all fairness, that one mod's opinions won't be able to necessarily change the whole modding policy and so any mod (existing or new) will have to follow any new mod team rules whatever they collectively decide (and whenever they FINALLY get round to deciding and letting us know!!!!). Roger You could be right Roger, but I for one won't be holding my breath. I have had a fair few PM's with WF over the past 6 weeks, and more often than not I was addressed as a norty child. To the point of me letting her know how little I appreciated that tone, she apologized and then continued on doing the exact same thing in the following PM's IMO - WF is the biggest offender in that particular regard. So suggesting that she will be 'leading the change' so to speak, I find entertaining to say the least Guess we can only wait and see No, WF never gave me the impression that she was leading any changes. In fact it seemed that she felt that her opinion was just one of many and might not carry as much weight as some of the others on the management team. Roger

Perhaps removal of the report button is the only modification required. The comments by some mod's over there indicate a belief that the site only runs due to their interventions. I suggest the truth is it would run better without any mod's. Of course some of the more combustible members would quickly explode, but it would settle down. Rog How about a dedicated topic where offensive posts need to be reported publicly. This would need to include a copy of the post in question and the reason, ie which forum rule was broken. The issue with reporting privately seems to be that it encourages vexatious liligants. Good idea, but I suspect the "report" thread would get locked P.D.Q.

If the poll doesn't go the way Daniel wants, no doubt he will demand another one.

If the poll doesn't go the way Daniel wants, no doubt he will demand another one. It's actually the same problem we are seeing in the States and here. Rather than voting between Trump and Clinton (or in or out...shake it all about), we should be removing the problem.

Perhaps it's the clique mentality.
It would appear that there is a group on there who actually know each other, and consequently feel the need to defend their friends.
It is an admirable trait. However it kind of defeats discussion if you're immediately going to be savaged by an angry sheep for disagreeing with one of their friends.
Additionally, the report button is too easy to be used (said with great authority having never used it). Take it away and force any individual to post their protest, so everyone can see and judge accordingly.
To be honest though, having been here a couple of weeks, I prefer here by a long way. I don't see now that the other place is fixable.

I have found it very interesting reading this thread.
I nailed my colours to the mast quite a while ago. I said that as far as I was concerned there was no chance I would go back to CWF as long as Denial was in charge (?) and probably not even if he and the fluffy bunny mods went.
(at that time there was rumblings about possible pardons and returns to the fold under careful fluffy bunny scrutiny of course)
since then of course the list of "things which must not be spoken about" has continued to grow and grow
I have been interested in watching how more recent joiners, have also been finding how much better the unmoderated atmosphere is compared to CWF.
I am pretty confident that this forum has established itself as a genuine friendly boaters forum that welcomes almost anyone who is interested in boats/boating/canals/rivers etc
(and even puts up with fat boat owners, yoghurt pot owners and people who tow caravans ................... or gliders come to that)

I have long thought that, after the initial unpleasantness (often caused by sock puppets from CWDF), things have settled down nicely here. AND that is despite the fact that all the banned from there are here. So, drawing a conclusion from that it would seem that the professionally offended over there are a very large, nay major, part of the problem. Roger

The thing that struck about the poll was the miniscule number of voters compared to the supposed thousands of members. The other thing which has become apparent is the number of people who having been members for some years but whose post count numbers in only tens who suddenly become how shall I say this.....gobby All this would indicate the actual number of active members of CWDF is quite low. Phil Still less than 200 votes and the link to it is at the top of every section.

Roger I've said this before, I can't recall a single contentious political thread here on TB. Supposedly all of the "ruffians" were banned from cwdf and came here, yet there's been no big blowups here. It seems pretty obvious that the people who were actually causing all the commotion are still there on cwdf because they certainly don't seem to be here.

I wonder if Daniel ever made contact with Carlt over his offer to mod a CA section?
I would have expected some contact out of simple politeness, but it seems likely that none would have been made as the drawbridge has been pulled up.
Nick Norman spent a lot of time trying to identify the problems and promote solutions, and was rewarded with a ban. I suspect that the view has been adopted that if you 'don't agree with me you're against me'.
As to any unpleasantness and bickering, thus far I haven't seen a single spat here.
And the recipes are better.
