I occasionally find old forged iron hooks in the cut with the magnet. I assume these are from cargo handling cranes. Photo below.
Is that what they are or are they something to do with the horses?

Do you find that once you've gone over an area with the magnet then revisit the place after a few years or so you find yet more things are being un-earthed??

When I did a LOT of magging in the southern GU near locks I would be pulling out untold amounts of scrap and it takes ages to remove all the scrap so I would say there is still a lot of old gear in there. I've never trawled and trawled until nothing was left. You do need a big magnet though. My preferred magnet is home made but there is an equivalent on eBay (not me selling it!) These things can pull a lot of shit out so needs strong arms and decent rope !! .. Will add link

Did I once read that you pulled an air rifle up, on a bend where trees swept rooves? Not me - I did once get an air rifle out but it was completely shagged - must have been in there for 20+ years. I don't remember it being near trees.
