Well hot from the press CHED EVANS the footballer has won his appeal against conviction but will face a retrial.A tawdry affair where all parties don't emerge with much credit in my opinion.

Let's hope that if the retrial finds him not guilty that he will receive compensation that reflects that a significant part of his career was destroyed by a false allegation; and that he will find a club who will judge him on his talents alone; as they would any other footballer.

If only it was that simple,I think everyone involved should be taking a long hard look at themselves irrespective of the verdict. You think the world is going mad with all of this carry on then you look in the mirror and realise maybe its you thats getting older?

I think CDS is right there are some very muddy waters there and however the verdict comes out there will be a lot of questions unanswered

Mindful of the subject matter it would be interesting to hear what our Lady members think about this appeal,do they for example think the first trial was conclusive enough and the appeal result a travesty or perhaps they feel just sickened by these footballers behaviour and the wages they earn. What about the role model argument we keep hearing about, thats one argument I can never understand. Are we such a feckless and shallow society that we need Ched Evans as a role model?

I remember this being discussed on CWDF, and anybody who suggested, as I did, that the evidence was insufficient for the verdict to be considered safe was branded as being "as bad as a rapist", a "monster" and all of the other idiotic and inane comments that some of the simple-minded mouth-breathers come out with when they are in lynch-mob frenzy. And well, the verdict has been overturned, so for the time being he has no more raped anybody than the Dalai Lama.

I have not paid a great deal of attention to this case in particular. Generally (and maybe it's just my age) there seems to be more and more instances of "celebrities" seeming to think because of their wealth and influence they can get away with anything scot free

The rise of the single parent family?

I wonder if those on CWDF who howled loudest will now choke on their apologies.

Katie Hopkins made me laugh in the Daily Mail. She has just come out proclaiming his innocence, apparently she was behind him all the way.Now that his appeal is successful ha ha ha never heard her utter a word about him before.

Like I say I never heard a word about it before. The trouble is she can be such a turn off with some of her views and as a result I have missed the first one I sort of agree with.

Had Evans been a 'normal' bloke the girl more than likely would have thought nothing of it. And then we have the witch hunt for ageing celebrities who behaved pretty well the same as everyone else thirty or forty years ago; but have the misfortune of being famous.

I wonder how far down the line this retrial will be ? CPS I take it must believe they have a realistic chance of conviction.

Apparently the decision was based on evidence that came to light after the previous guilty verdict. The CPS would need to take this evidence into account before deciding whether there's any point in staging a re trial.
