I'd recommend going to a brokers and having a look at as many boats as you can. After awhile you'll find what you like and don't like. It will also give you something to Compare other boats you see to.

"The poster formerly known as WotEver" I'm sure there used to be a picture of a boat of that name on the cover of a paints brochure. Something to do with Alvechurch Marina / Worcester & Birmingham Canal? Pretty sure I've seen it. edit - gotcha! Symphony Paints - One of the photos on the top banner. But it's nb Wotever Next. www.symphonynarrowboatpaint.co.uk/

And why I bought an older but solidly fitted and equipped boat rather than newer and for my budget inevitably less well fitted out. Tongue and groove was a must for me, it's somehow more boaty. Mine's fitted out in iroko tongue and groove, and looks lovely. There's not one single knot in the wood, and the sections are around 18-20' in length so there's only one join in the entire fitout.

We were thinking of naming our next boat Wot Ever Next but when they did that we decided we'd go for Wot Ever Now

One of the things I enjoy about this forum is the way that the chat ebbs and flows naturally, it wanders off into little byways but eventually wanders back onto track again. It's very much more like chatting to a bunch of mates in a pub rather than the restrictions of the other place. I don't think anyone gets bothered when threads get sidetracked as a natural result of banter between mates And it helps to up your post count.......opps done it again....shameless

Iroko veneer or solid? Pics please.... It's solid iroko tongue and groove above the gunwhales and along the ceiling, with ash-faced ply below the gunwhales. It's too dark to take decent photos at the moment, I have a couple from the brokerage ad when we bought it which don't really show it very well but I will post them anyway. The original owner of the boat was Malcolm Rhodes, who was a professional boat fitter and who did the fit-out himself

Thanks everyone for the tips and advice, I feel a bit more confident in recognising a good fit out now. Thanks also for being gentle with me about me deleting some of my posts - you are all really are a bunch of 'fluffy bunnies hiding in a closet'

I wouldn't bother deleting anything. Certainly nothing you 2 posted was offensive or boring. The beauty of this place is, posts tend to meander off topic as other people add 2p and advice - In my view it's a good recipe and one that has worked very well for a successful motorcycle forum I'm part of where we also selfmod and say whatever we like without being banned or shite like that..
