Up to a year or so I ran a small business. My earnings dictated that I was entitled to, and I claimed, working tax credits.
When the accounts were submitted I received a letter stating that I'd been overpaid by around £500.00. Fair enough. If a demand for payment had been included I would have sent a cheque. But there was no demand. Instead I received a letter stating that any future tax credits claim would be reduced by the sum overpaid. Very generous that, effectively letting me off repaying money I owed to others, unless I made another claim in the future. Beers all round for me and my mates
Just today I checked my bank account. Paid in: £40 or so 'working tax credit'
Is it any wonder that the country carries a trillion pounds of debt on its shoulders when such a ridiculous giveaway system is in place?
