Thanks for the reply. After posting I googled Parson's Terrier, which immediately gave a description as ' the breed founded by the Rev John 'Jack' Russell.' I shall explore further. Rog That part is basically correct. It's what happened subsequently that defind the differences.

I have a whole load of books in our storeroom on all kinds of subjects. I thought to keep them but the years pass and they are getting older and older. If there's anyone here looking for something, a particular book or a theme, let me know here and I'll see if I've got it. Do you have "Russian torture methods" by I Kutabolokof. ? No, but we have an old memo that we found in the bins behind the Russian Embassy in Helsinki which says: "Remember to ask Trump for more Dollars to Putin to my secret Swiss bank account."

Mind you I might have a good thread for you lot to work on later today. Think of I need to post it you will all enjoy it. The thread I said I might have for you earlier on today is not going to be needed as the thread has been hidden on CW and the offence is no more. So sorry no thread for you to enjoy. Geo

Totally agree about books. Kindle are hateful things. Ok I don't know, because I have a Kindle I was able to download the complete works of Jules Verne, I would not have bought them so owning a Kindle enables me to read a lot of books I would probably not have read. Phil

A Kindle is just another IT mystery of life..... I initially got one for Chris because she could adjust the font size (her sight is failing) but once I had a play with it I was soon won over, it can store thousands of books plus more in cloud storage, also there is a huge amount of free books to choose from for example Jules Verne, 20 odd books....free Another bonus is that we can share each others books via the cloud which doubles the potential Phil

A Kindle is just another IT mystery of life..... I had one of the very first ones and used it for a while but have gradually slipped back into using traditional books. I normally go on Amazon and then find the book I want as nearly new/used. Nine times out of ten they are in pristine condition and priced much less than a new one. My kindle lies unused nowadays. One thing about them is that books you pay for can often be more expensive than the printed version. ISTR it's an issue to do with VAT which is chargeable on electronic downloads. I should add though, I can see the definite appeal for liveaboards who might not have room for a huge book collection.

When I briefly borrowed one to try I discovered that there are a number of 'classic' books that are available free.
As a consequence I did read Alice in Wonderland for the first time.

I'm another one who got the Jules Verne classics. Re-read '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea' only recently. And HG Wells. I must re-read 'The First Two Men In The Moon' soon.
I love my Kindle.

I love my Kindle too, so much easier to read in bed than a book. My boat was chock-full of books when I bought it, not my kind of thing though so I had to chuck the lot, boxes and boxes of them. The boat floated a few inches higher at the back when I'd finished.
I rarely read a book twice, why would you with so many still unread? The homely warmth exuded from shelves of books is nice, but in a small boat, for me, there are better uses for the space.
