Thanks.
I was expecting something about Gregor Townsend.
One track mind or what.

Thank you for posting about this. I watched it yesterday on catch-up. I was surprised at how hard it was to see the signals, despite the train going a lot slower than I imagine it would have been on a mainline run. I love steam trains, they seem to be alive.

I watched it and also noticed the speed was low! The footplates area seemed massive. Easily room for four men plus the camera crew. I was puzzled when they referred to the reverser valve - I thought this was the 'economiser' valve that cuts the steam off soon after TDC once train is moving at a decent pace. Steam is admitted through full stroke initially, before the train has any momentum.

We watched it on the iPlayer last night.
Very good, although the driver and fireman were not what you'd call expert on that engine! No doubt it's a fair tricky job on an unfamiliar engine though.
I had a look on the SVR website, it's 16 miles that normally takes around 70 minutes. Quite fancy a look there next time we are in Stourport on Severn.

Just a quick heads up for the steam enthusiasts. Flying Scotsman: From The Footplate. BBC4 29th December @ 21:00hrs. Watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. A good anecdote to most of the 'normal' TV this year. It was good to see it warts and all, without cutting out some of the problems they had, particularly right at the start getting the loco moving. Well recommended for any body that has iPlayer.

You can see elephants from the SVR! Air France late. Due to frog? Er.... fog!

Aha! Photos of the Llangollen steam railway to appear on Thunderboat next week. I need some time to think of captions

Did I ever tell anybody that I once knew someone who got run over by a steam train?

I've yet to watch it. I did catch the very end I think as it came into a station. What I did notice is that in the credits CaRT were mentioned. I'll have to watch I suppose. This was from when it went in its travels a while back coming towards southampton. Was so happy to see it after seeing it in the museum in York .
