I've seen a fair few data loggers and enforcement officers during my travels. One thing that's struck me is that each and every one of these people has been... white. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting a strict quota of 'non whites' but are CRT overlooking the great work that our black and Asian friends are capable of? And come to think of it, when I see pictures of the highly salaried management team, I don't see many Poles or Lithuanians amongst them. If we think abut this further, despite the guff "CRT is a privately managed charity" (blah blah) anyone with a brain larger than an infant's knows that it's effectively an arm of the government. We can only conclude that the organisation isn't really getting into the spirit of things, in modern day Britain.
Perhaps we should consider: Are our licence fees going to fund an organisation that is institutionally racist?

I would imagine it is largely because black and Asian people have no great interest in the British canal system, rather than that CRT refuse to give them jobs. For the same reason, the proportion of boaters from ethnic minorities appears to be lower than their proportion in society in general.

You'd have to look at the job applicants to come to any other suggestion. How do you know none are Eastern European, have you talked to all the white ones?

Same with qualified engineers, I reckon some employers are keen to increase their female engineer head count such that if a female and male engineer apply for a job the female is probably going to get a job offer. A few years back when I was involved in recruitment I would guess that for every one female qualified engineer applicant there would be 15 males. Often there would only be a few applicants, none of which were female. Also very few non white engineers. Diversity is increasing, which is good.
What I was trying to say is that just because an organisation does not reflect the population does not make them racist or sexist it may just mean they are not attractive as employers, and the minority groups can target the better paying or better status jobs in other organisations.

I suppose that, in a perfect world, we'd all simply cease to notice or register, whether someone is black or white; male or female; gay or straight, and just deal with each other, politely and with respect. After all, we're all heading to the same destination, the only difference will be our arrival time Rog

To be honest, I can't imagine many jobs worse than being a CRT data logger. Certainly, riding a mountain bike along a boggy towpath in the pissing rain on a freezing cold day in January isn't my idea of fun. Perhaps black and Asian people have got more sense than to do it.

I would argue tha C&RT don't have much interest in the British canal system either....!!

I really don't understand the boater v CRT situation well enough to comment, I bought my boat after CRT took over from BW. I have never had a problem with CRT myself but from what I have read on here and CWDF, I do suspect that many boaters deliberately bring problems on themselves.

Yes, as I say, I've never really had much contact with CRT other than to pay them the licence fees. I've never had any hassle from them, if I do in the future then I will post about it although I can't really imagine why I would. It does occur to me that there may be a small minority of boaters who simply don't accept that use of the canals requires compliance of rules, and that these are the boaters who end up having to deal with Section 8 notices. Whether these rules should exist is another matter, but as an analogy I understand that my car needs to be taxed, MOT'd and insured and that I need a driving licence to drive it, and if I don't comply with these requirements then I am likely to face enforcement action.

I can't speak for everybody, I can only speak about the boaters I've met. But why don't you ask Tony or Nigel what they did to deserve the hassle that Bw/crt gave them?

Employees lose interest in their work and company when they see their hard work is not appreciated and the management are just milking the whole shebang dry.

The government dont see it that way, they want nothing to do with CRT, they have hoofed if off into the charity sector, and dont ever want to hear about it again. Contact wateways minister, and you will get the reply " WTF are you bothing me for ".
