I've had one of those Clarke generators and it lasted less than a year. Tackling Machine Mart about it was too difficult. I wouldn't have another.

I've got a graveyard of the damn things. A tight arse at work purchased 6 of the ig1000 to run some extractor fans and halogen floodlights. Our of the 6 one is complete and running (mine) one has a dead engine, one has no spark, one has no electric output and one has a knackered recoil starter. At some point I must build a couple of good uns out of the pile of bits I have.
The Hondas that should have been purchased first time have not been a moments bother.
The 1000w will run a travel kettle and toaster OK, it grunts well at high loads. Fairly quite if just running my Fairstone 30a charger and the idiot lantern.
By choice I'd have a better Genny but the tight arse in me says these Chinese things have got to be totally FUBAR before I put my hand in my pocket.

I have the EU30is Honda as back up,very pricey though I was fortunate to pick it up from a boater who was packing up.Best you can buy I think.I have often looked at those Machine Mart Generators and wondered,so thanks to you and Loafer for your experiences Kippor is another load of shit in case your tempted.

Yeah, we got eu20's to replace em, proper job. No way one of them will land up in my lap via the skip Stephill did some Honda powered stuff that was quite good. Older gennys you would do a lot worse than a GA1400 Kawasaki, there is a nice one in Melksham on Gumtree, my mate lives in Wiltshire so picking it up no bother but I keep having to remind myself of the nasty Clarke that still works I had a Honda ex650, super bit of kit that with another 400w would never needed changing. Oh well, not to worry!

Can I ask you Gazza, you know the old style Honda and indeed the Kawasaki you mention? they are no good for computers and indeed washing machines on account of the Sine Wave thats correct isn't it? I ask because I am constantly being offered these.

It's a broad subject best addressed by linking you to good old PetePower www.petepower.co.uk/choosing-generators.htmlSaves a rake of typing! In general it must be AVR or pure sine wave. Capacitor controlled or modified can fry stuff. Delicate kit can be run thru a UPS to make double sure they are safe from a keen Genny.

That's cause Machine Mart sell Chinese junk, rebranded and sold at a premium, its still more than I would pay for one. ( I wouldn't buy one full stop )

Well my Dad once told me that if you buy cheap, you keep buying. I'm happy with that! I go straight to the right-hand end of the shelf and buy the one that is the most reassuringly expensive. Apart from Victron, who are shit. IMHO.

This site has some cheaper gennies: thepowersite.co.uk/generatorsBloke from there popped into the other forum a while back, seemed ok to me. Screwfix do a little 'impax' inverter genny, good reviews though almost certainly won't take loads of abuse.

Good warning. I was just about to consider one of those. I will now re-consider it! Honda is what you want Loafer, have a look decide what your powering and pick one that will give you that output.A good warranty and a worlwide dealer network should anything go wrong. Why would you buy anything else ?

The thing is with inverter geny's is that the inverter board is sealed in epoxy and unrepairable, a new one is most of the cost of a new geny, and the cheaper it is the lower grade components they use in the PCB. Most kipors, and quality below that blow the inverter PCB, and are binned, look on eBay and there's dozens of them "spares or repairs " .
I have a KIPOR kge2000 that I was given as used and abused scrap at least 3 years ago, which only required a new carb, and it still in regular use. I have even dropped it in the cut once, dried it out and it still refuses to die.
