I think so - summer '95 was the last time I was there, The Red Lion - gone now... Book - Hampshire Waterways by P.A.L. Vine, Middleton Press 1990 As for Red Bridge and the sea lock it was up stream from the bridge and that slipway type thing in your photos is not anything to do with the canal. I did spend some time to see if I could find the lock, or rather any evidence of it, but to no avail. I had the chance to work excavating a lock on the Itchin Navigation with some fellows from Southampton's archeology dept. The hope was to uncover anything left of the lock gates but there was only the cills to be found. Drawings should still be with the council. I'm sorry I thought I had replied. I walked the Itchen navigation last summer and stopped at all the locks. Fascinating. I remember now, I was having issues uploading pics I found a lock with a cill dug out. I particularly liked the lock with the grass banks and no walls. Some of the locks are still quite intact considering its not been used for years. It's a good walk as a lot of the navigable bits are still flowing. Thanks for the heads up I will try the archives.

I did gets some pics of the canal from where it split up and we walked it along the old railway towards andover.
There might be some pics on a railway thread somewhere.
I've also been to the alleged sea Lock In NORTHAM but not convinced.
I need my laptop to get some pics sorted.

I live nearby so this is interesting for me . Found this after some rooting about www.calmoreshow.org.uk/agestot.htmAs the text says the black line is the canal, which seems to loop away from the river bank in the general direction of Adams Morey if you see what I mean. Your putative lock is just upstream of the bridge. Just spent some time on Google maps satellite view trying to spot signs of a canal bed - best I can do is the footpath to the right of Test Lane maybe? Thank you I took the kids far a walk. We crossed the railway line into the nature reserve and followed the railway up to the sewage works. There are areas of canal bed visible. I also went to romsey. Swimming or something and something caught my eye off lee lane. We were just of the junction by the mile wall by the lodge and there is a lot of dried up canal there. I'll investigate more and get pics. The ones I took don't show it well. On a side note I found some interesting stuff of the nature reserve and calmore but can't remember now what or where. I'm getting some info of the southampton her rating site on fb. And some great pics of the old Bridge. I've also got some pics of where the canal went under the gatehouse to a seal Ockendon by dock town quay. I'm guessing it followed the old moat. I found canal walk. Never knew where that was too. By the end of the year I'll have a book out.
