So, how was the refurbished steering gear?
No more vibration white finger chugging along the cut?

I shall take photos right now. Yes, looks OK, feels OK. No more clanking. But going rusty already, and on power water gushes up and out round the sides of the new top bearing. Is that normal?! Grease nipple there seems to be. I shall smear grease by finger over it. 2 hours daylight left, and not much time In morning to play around. Water in engine room - scupper tube! Rainwater from drains. Hole of sorts, looking now. Back cover will help, but I shall do something First Aid-ish. Man checking it next week. Both scuppers need replacing - a job for June.

Some boats get a geyser up the rudder tube, my mum's old boat did. Won't harm it but you may get wet bell bottoms. Sounds like you will be busy. No Thunderboat for you till the work is done

Been raining non-bloody-stop, so no pics yet. Can't change engine oil as rain would go over engine & electrics. Clothes washed at marina 'launderette', boat vacuumed and batteries apparently charged 100%. Old engine oil disposed of, cratch tidied, kindling that was too long to fit in our stove sawn up, packed for return to home, vacuum bag changed and old one taken to bin. Time for steak & ale pies to heat in oven and drink South African Chenin Blanc, and write postcards. And look to see if Helsinki airport strike means we have to live at Manchester airport for a week..
We have been lucky with weather this last week, can't really complain. Looking at Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Pearson's guides and wondering if we should stay oop North even longer. We'll see what happens this Summer.
Nice to be on our boat now it is clean and tidy and fire going, with everything in order. Oh, apart from that leaking scupper drain tube!

the swing bridges will put muscles on your spit! some were hard work when we went over. Have you turned left to Liverpool and Southport, thats well worth the effort. Don't know how your 10hp would fare going up the ribble to the Lancaster tho.

Leeds and Liverpool is terrific, but the trip into the docks at Liverpool is well worth it. And you'll be able to say you've done it end to end too. If you go, sign up for the free dock tour. I think they run them on Wednesdays (about 12 people at a time). They take you under the Liverpool One shopping complex to view the original (first in the world) dock. Not to be missed AND IT'S FREE Rog

Nah - avoid Liverpuddle like the plague! Right at Wigan for us and into God's Own Country. You're right of course, Wigan is in the county of Greater Manchester, on leaving it you enter God's own country. Then risk the wrath of the Devil in Hell as you leave Barlick, going east. (translated for you European immigrants that would be Barnoldswick). What's up with Liverpool btw, at a guess your boat hasn't had any wheels since it was there last?

But you can see that anywhere, if you go looking. Nothing like that on the way in, Netherton a bit rough, as are other bits of Liverpool, stay on the boat if you are frit, the docks are great, a round trip on the ferry is well worth it. Just carry your axe at all timesπ

As promised, pics of what we now have. I didn't get the chance to ask what we actually had there in the first place, was it just a bit of tube going round in another bit of tube as a 'bearing'? Now we have what everybody else has. We like to fit in goo.gl/photos/wRhpiEBkBqGwoePh9 Rusty after just a week! Pfftttt......!! I smeared grease all over it once the rain had stopped and I had dried it as much as I could.
