The article touched on the militarisation of the police force and speculation that the EU joint forces might threaten NATO. It was mentioned on Radio 4, a few days ago that, the EU Commission want the UK to be replaced by an EU representative on the Nato security council. It does highly suggest that the EU is intent on reducing each member country to a federation member. All this is not going to make Russia feel any less nervous or paranoid.
They may also be looking for a strengthening of defence tactics against civil unrest spreading. The EU is going tits up. I don't think ideals can compensate for a truly unnatural tying together of a group a nations, such as is found in the EU. Maybe when we've got our acts together and become civilised, then, it might be a worthwhile thing to contemplate.

Just the UK and not France? Fear mongering is not just the remit of the IN brigade sadly.

Yes, I guess France, too. Who knows how the French reporting of it may have gone. Anyway, I don't agree with the EU and so would not be inclined to accept an EU rep in replacement on the security council.

NATO doesn't have a Security Council, does it?

Yes, I meant the UN security council. Ta.

What about the French representative on the Security Council? Regardless, it would be insane for the UK to give up its S.C. seat.

It would effect the French, too. They'd be gone, along with the UK. It may not be an issue to the French, but we're discussing the possible exit from the EU. For those who support Brexit, the idea of the UK being replaced by an EU rep is just another sign that would indicate becoming less significant. Too much bureaucratic distance between those in power and people.
I'm not really interested in hearing from our own politicians that they're not able to control because they lack the power. I've nothing personal against the German president, but she can speak for the Germans. There's hardly any reference to the EU that doesn't portray her as a prime mover in the EU.

Well, that's the thing. Giving your Security Council seat away to the EU would, in effect, be giving it to Germany. In any event, aren't the five permanent members of the S.C. the countries that were the impetus for the UN to grow into the organization it is? They are more or less the founders of the UN, aren't we? Having Brexit on the table makes it an even more foolish an idea.

Here's one of the comments which I like:
"The EU wishes to have total control of the masses - no dissent - no complaining about their absurd policies, and that includes being swamped by an "alien" culture. Complain about that and you commit a "hate" crime. This is what Cameron is supporting and why we have to stand up for ourselves and get the heck out of this corrupt "partnership" "
At least the Russians are just good old Mafia thugs. The EU MEPs are pure evil.
However, I predict the Brits are a bit spineless, and the results of the vote will be that Britain stays in the EU. There will be some 'concessions' - which will just be empty nothings to placate the sheeple.
Nothing must stop Euro MPs from shovelling frogs legs and snails into their mouths in Brussels's finest (and expensive) restaurants! I bet it would be slightly uncomfortable if some ex-steel workers also went to dine in the same restaurants at the same time...
