Roy...I heard on Friday night whilst chatting with one of the Bloodtub cottage owners in The Windmill in Parbold, that there were serious plans at resurrecting the Dry Dock opposite the Bloodtub and putting it back into use, primarily to house Viktoria there whilst restoration goes on... Do you know anything about this? Thanks for the photos Andy, great to see pictures of Derek on ambush. I've never seen Venus before but it looks like a pimblotts shortboat, I can't see enough of the boat behind. Hi Kris, this "VENUS" isn't a Pimblotts Shortboat, it's a short barge of a series of workboats made for BW.
There are several sisterships around, the first one I saw in France in 2011 is named "SIRIUS" of which I took some photos that I will try to post to give you a better idea of what "VENUS" looks like, a few others are "Canopus", Mercury" and "Smeaton" and there are surely a couple more.
Btw, "VENUS" is owned by a guy who works with and for Derek Bent.
Peter.

Final day of a chilled weekend....back to Parbold! Just out of Appley Bridge lock and again we bump into Derek & Ambush.. I remembered you to Derek Kris, he was happy you were all ok and asked were you where as it had been too long since last time, I took the liberty in telling him your over Leeds way!! Pull him up and ask him if he's any diesel left, grumpily he fills us up, he was expecting a quick run home after Parbold but as always he does the business...Top man!! And Β£55 worth of red diesel later he's away home, but not before a weekend boater went PST and stole his empty lock! ππ

Asked Derek about the Top Lock drydocks and he did say that CRT are going to clean them up and put them back to how they 'used' to be, alas they ain't going to be used for work, much to Dereks discust and neither Viktoria or Ambush will be kept there! π
BTW.... I editted out the 36 'F' words that accompanied Derek's reply ! ππ

I've seen from the wonderful photos on this thread that Venus isn't a pimblotts shortboat. I believe it was a maintenance barge to start with.

It's great to see photos of his boats.

I've seen from the wonderful photos on this thread that Venus isn't a pimblotts shortboat. I believe it was a maintenance barge to start with. These B-W boats were supposedly built by Dunstons yard at Thorne, the drawings for them were made by B-W themselfs.
The guy that owns "Venus" and works for-and with Derek Bent will surely be able to tell you a bit more about them.
Peter.

Isn't what you were thinking of more of a rhyme than a song ? . . . something like - " Twas on the good ship 'Venus', by God you should have seen us etc. . etc. I can't remember anything like all the many verses but there was that went :- The first mateβs name was Cropper His dick it was whopper Once round the deck, twice round his neck And up his arse for a stopper.

I had been trying to remember the name of the original band for ages, they had a great female singer. It came up in conversation with some guys in the boatyard, they were talking about the Bananarama version that they were insisting were the original. I knew they weren't and the original version was streets better but for the life of me I couldn't remember who it was.
