I don't have access to comment but this is the sister ship to LAKE which was apparently for sale last year as the bloke bought it in April 2020. www.facebook.com/groups/73933281285/So that's interesting. One of the user comments asked if it was LAKE. It isn't but it has exactly the same hull as LAKE. ETA the link just goes to London boaters group. It was this post from 14th March. The grey Colecraft to the right is the one which had the tattooed bloke eating porridge from a bowl who scared the living daylights out of me. Either that or I scared him but either way it scared bargemast away from the forum permanently, which was a bit upsettling. Having some problems with this due to Russian interference but hopefully the images have uploaded ok here.

I never noticed this one down at Laleham ever being for sale.
It's a lovely boat and has a regular cabin rather than a bit of this and a bit of that.

M/b Darwen on the River Thames, she was the first of three boats commissioned by British Waterways 1953 and built by Fairmile Construction under licence from Harland & Wolf in London and built of high tensile steel. Carried 54 tons on a 4 ft draft. Further boats were M/b Everton and M/b Farnworth. All ended up in the London area after their carrying days on the L & L Canal. Darwen was used after her carrying days in Lancashire as a tourist attraction circa 1970/80 and was berthed on the Canal Arm at Trencherfield Mill just below Wigan Bottom Lock. Her crew in 1953 were Brian Robinson and his Father, Brian served many years after that on the Maintenance Staff of B. W. and CRT. There is a plaque in Brian's honour at the Top O' T'Hiilock Locks between Chorley and Blackburn where he ended his days as Lockkeeper

Yes I've seen that on the River. I thought Darwen was the boat down near Rickmansworth recently converted which is visible on Google maps towpath view here I guess from the bows it's not one of the High Tensile ones now I look at it and I think it was mentioned before which one this was. It's down below Springwell lock near the maple cross shit farm.

LAKE is not a L&LC boat, but was built for the A&CN prior to the 1880s as a mallion, or maintenance, boat.

Andrew says itβs hull is not dentical to lakes.

Not the l&l but interesting. This was in Rochdale not far from the cut. The Boat pub on Hamer Mill Lane, Belfield was an upturned canal barge formally named Uncle Tom's Cabin, pulled out of the water in 1841.

Ribble waiting to drop down the Wigan flight. I remember Ribble being for sale for Β£12,500 in about 1994 when I was looking for my first boat to live on. It was on the Slough arm of the GU and unconverted. I think at the time it was part of the Murrell's fleet of workboats. Nice boats they are those Short boats. Very nice.

Agreed! welcome aboard! looks like the boat in your avatar would fit in well on this thread ππ» Thank you. The boat in my avatar is Irwell moored in Castlefied basin in Manchester. My partner bought Irwell in 2015 with the intention of complete renovation. howeve, for health reasons this project has been delayed! Hopefully now we will restart the project again. Irwell is in a very poor state at the moment and needs a lot of attention. I also appreciate if there are any old photographs of Irwell when it was working.
