No excuse for the PMs. Appalling behaviour.

I have said before, too many people are over judgemental on CWDF, buoyed by their belief that they know all there is to know on a subject.
Someone asks a simple question, and immediately people rush to judgement, and start taking a pop. The question was not related in any way to batteries, yet immediately assumptions were made about charging etc.
The only person who appeared to answer the question and did not fly off the handle, was our own lovely Telemachus.
Anyway, I was referring to their earlier post. They have lived aboard for four years on the K&A (one would guess they know what they're doing don't you think) but have now relocated to new cruising grounds in the midlands.
Hope they jump in here.

Clearly the lady and husband know what they are doing, what is the point of fitting a battery charger you cannot use. I myself have for over 12 years survived without one, I have solar and the whispergen which is a freestanding battery charger and central heating boiler, if I go into dry dock generally I can do a week with my 1500ah battery bank, any longer and its a 5 amp car battery charger which works fine for the second week. My new old boat will be the same solar panels and a new whispergen that I bought cheap last year and that should do the trick nicely.

The question was not related in any way to batteries, yet immediately assumptions were made about charging etc. The post that apparently prompted her initial outrage was to my mind a very innocent and well-advised "plan for a mains charger at some point". A point that was made purely because they were having 240 installed. Had she not reacted so negatively to that good piece of advice then the rest of the thread probably wouldn't have occurred.

I have solar and the whispergen which is a freestanding battery charger So you have a battery charger. They don't. If they have a big enough alternator plus solar that could well be enough even in winter ....... I get an amp or so (@24v) even on miserable grey winter days

They didn't seek advice about batteries, chargers or anything of the kind.
This was pointed out, and suddenly several 'experts' are giving them a kicking for their poor charging regime!
Yet they are the ones being criticised.
Some over there should take a close look at themselves, sorry.
Anyway, enough about CWDF from me.

Who's criticising them? No-one in this thread.

I was, of course, reffering to the CWDF thread.
We're all helpful, sympathetic, compassionate souls here.

People assume and because there are some people, who believe they know all there is to know about a subject and love handing down tablets of stone....... Bingo !!! They are the ones who really hate it, when someone comes along who has thought outside the box. It is almost impossible to find an engineering problem that has only one solution. I love it when someone comes out with something innovative. It's the expressions of the know it alls that amuses me

If someone sent me a shitty personal message (unless after due diligence I thought I deserved it!), I'd post it up publicly in the appropriate thread. I did that once and got a warning for it and my post removed. Showing how shitty some members can be is not permitted.

The problem was surely that if they do have a great charging solution that gets them through the winter then they could have simply said "Don't need a charger thanks. We've been CCing for over 2 years and have our charging regime pretty well sorted out". Then the discussion could have been about their 'innovative out the box' solution.
