I left my boat for 2 months, went back on it on Monday. Yesterday afternoon I checked the back of the cabin, there's access here to the baseplate. There was an estimated 1-2 gallons of water in here. Initially I didn't worry about this. I had a problem with a leaking water pump which I (lazily) dealt with by putting a Tupperware box under it which I emptied every day or so. I fixed this regular drip in December by using ptfe tape in the connector thread of the pump. I put the water in the bilge down to this.
I mopped the water out around 24 hours ago.
From previous experience I know that it's not possible to get rid of the water in one go. Some of it collects in different parts of the bilge, moving to the lowest bit (the back, where my access is) as you move around the boat etc.
I've started to become a bit concerned as today has gone on. I'm mopping out around half a pint of water an hour, the amount doesn't seem to be diminishing. To try to speed the process I've heeled the boat over, towards the side on which the access hatch is situated, using a tight centre rope.
The front of the baseplate, where the water tank and pump is, is bone dry. There is no intermittent running of the pump so I assume the piping is OK. There isn't a leak from the shower waste piping. It hasn't rained so I've ruled out leaky windows. The boat was very damp when I went back on it but having the stove running for a few days has dried everything out, so I've ruled out condensation.
So basically either water is still making its way to the lowest point, but not reducing at the moment, or I have a problem with the hull.
Any thoughts on this, how long I should keep mopping up before I start thinking about getting the boat out of the water?
Cheers.
