I've always thought that draining pounds regularly for maintenance (in winter) would be a good idea as it would also help get people moving. could do one at a time. Jenlyn - which canals do you think might close by 2020? Interesting view but I really don't think so apart perhaps from some dead end ditches here and there which have been restored by overenthusiastic volunteers with a short term view. I actually think the K&A might be closed relatively soon but talking 10+ years. what makes you think the K&A will be closed? It's a busy popular canal.

I'm beginning to warm to bodger. I'm afraid I'm not very cuddly, and I have been told I'm not very tasty either.

I'll be past my sell-by date by then so I don't give a damn, but I don't believe it will because it's always chokka at my end, and is part of the only east west coast to coast route in the sarf of England.

it's always chokka at my end Aha! On the K&A, eh? We may meet.... in 2018 or, more likely, 2019. since I went trailering I rarely visit the K&A for the very reason that it is populated by (among others) miserable old gits who crawl out of their continuously moored cabin and shout at you for going at more than a snail's pace - for mile after mile east of Bath. You can keep it. the world (well anywhere within a couple of hours from home on the motorway) is now my oyster.
