Hi all, first time poster and joined simply to enquire about something.
I've heard a rumour that the land at Camp Hill has been sold, including the facilities block that will apparently be closed down to make way.
This has surprised me somewhat as it's a nice block and gives secure moorings to people who don't want masses of locks and a ten mile cruise to Catherine de Barnes.
Has anyone else heard the rumour? Can CaRT just close and sell off facilities blocks? Should a consultation be held regarding the loss of the safe moorings if they can?
I'm hoping the rumour is wrong but...

Hello, I've no idea if the facilities you are talking about have been sold off. But it wouldn't surprise me, the waterways infrastructure is under more threat than it's ever been. Crt are selling land left right and centre. I could almost believe all of the fuss over enforcement is just a smoke screen to hide the fact that Crt managment are selling everything they can to property developers at double speed.

I've sent an email to Ian Lane asking him to confirm or deny.

Ok, a quick response from Ian Lane to confirm the land has been sold and that there were some problems with access but to the best of his knowledge these have been resolved. The facilities and moorings will remain.
However, he will check with the Estates Department and come back to me next week.

Thanks for sending the email Pearly,
That makes more sense to me, the block is a nice one and the moorings are useful. Access issues I can understand as I think the only way to empty the skip and do maintenance on the block would be off Sampson Road North or walking from the access by the tyre dealers. I think the back pump outlet is in the yard as well but may be wrong on that one.
Quick response from Ian Lane, fair play to him.
Probably Chinese whispers causing the confusion.

Ian is one of a few at the trust who is in my view, genuinely interested in the upkeep of the canals. Plus he is a really good bloke, and I continue to be amazed that parry has not yet got rid of him.

I'd second (or maybe third or fourth now) that Ian is one of the good ones. My hope would be that he'd be in running when the Trustees finally tell Parry to do one. It'd be nice to have someone that cares about the cut in the top post.
