If the boat tends to be higher at the bows than the stern, which is common, and has a lengthways bed this means that the bed will be slightly sloped at least some of the time (low water tank).
Which raises the question which way round should one sleep on an uneven bed? Head down or feet down?

Not if there is already a "lengthways bed". Good point though as this was how the old working narrow boats were set up

Our boat is fitted out with caravan fittings, so bed is crosswise. Prefer heads away from stove. (Our heads not the heads, which are well away from stove, to minimise risk of explosion when swmbo is evacuating.)

I was wondering about blood flow during sleep.

Or you could sleep with your head (the one that contains your brain) on the high end of the bed so all your blood doesn't go to your head, and put pillows under your feet so they don't swell up over night

If I sleep with my head lower that my feet I get a blinding headache and zero sleep. Probably because it is causing your blood pressure to rise. That is why hospital beds can be raised at the foot end, so that in an emergency you can raise a falling BP.

I've also seen that (raising of the foot of the bed along with raising of the head) as a restraint technic to keep a patient who was suffering with a mild form of dementia, in bed during the night. With both side rails raised she was unable to get out of bed. However she did look very uncomfortable, and cried and moaned most nights.

Thanks for that. As far as I know my blood pressure is ok so I will do head above feet if the boat is sloping at all.
I find it interesting and noticed Tadworth's comment about headaches if your feet are higher than your head which has made me think about sleeping standing up as a hangover cure.
