Do these LSE students live in the real world? I visit numerous factories and packhouses etc in the course of my job which I have been going to for over 30 years. Thirty years ago every single person who worked in these places was native-born, nowadays there will not be one single person working there who is not eastern European. The locals are sitting at home on benefits, because you can't pay western European rents on eastern European wages.
There used to be a thriving British continental transport industry, nowadays every single truck driver on every single Dover-Calais Crossing will be eastern European. My job, my business will die as soon as eastern European drivers are allowed to do unlimited internal work- it's only resistance from French and Dutch trade unions which stopped this happening in 2014, but free movement remains the eventual goal of the eu.
It is just absolute bollocks to suggest that eu membership has been beneficial to anybody other than the ruling class. It baffles me how any working-class person can be so stupid as to fall for it, with all of the evidence available in front of their very eyes.

Try talking to people in the real world rather then posting some LSE report.

You mean ignore the hard facts and base my opinions on a few anecdotes?

Ignore the hard facts? Have you been living under a rock since 2004?

That's like saying, "Go ahead and jump off the cliff. The law of gravity doesn't apply here." Wages and jobs prospects are both subject to the law of supply and demand. Full stop! Anyone, or any institution, that tries to tell you differently is pissing on your leg and telling you it's raining. For the last 30 years our southern border has been wide open to anyone wanting to cross it. The result is millions of undocumented workers, aka cheap labor. The politicians and economists try to tell us that these are just people who are coming here to "do the jobs Americans don't want to do" and that they have no effect on wages. Coincidentally, American workers wages have stagnated or declined over the last 30 years. The law of supply and demand is virtually unequivocal. To pretend that it doesn't exist is inane.

Just proves you can write a report that cleverly ignores the blindingly obvious.

Just proves you can write a report that cleverly ignores the blindingly obvious. Agreed. Delta9 has seriously gone down in my estimation.

Such common sense devoid people can convince themselves of anything, they invented the idea of a "multi cultural and diverse society" completely refusing to accept that the meaning of "society" is a homogeneous thing, and can never be "diverse".
Sadly we let these clever sounding idiots run our lives these days.

I'm a worker and I was born in the UK. The influx of cheap-labour immigrants from Russia and Estonia, Yugoslavia (various bits of), Somalia and Nigeria definitely affected my wages and employment conditions when I was in Helsinki! When I started work for Helsinki City Transport in 1990 100% of drivers were Finns. About 7 years ago only 20% were Finns.
I can tell of numerous examples where the incomers have fucked it up for the old workers. Why, I wonder, doesn't the UK fill up Parliament with Estonians? They will fuck up the whole country - and for half-price! What a bargain!

Chicken feed compared to 400 passengers on Havana's camel buses... although I believe they don't have them any more?
