I think the landlord can look forward to a long jail sentence.

Or contractors ....... I don't understand how it was able to spread as far and as fast ....... as there was a report of recent works in progress I am wondering about re-instatement of fire breaks in risers
I think we have to wait until the fire investigation officers have been inside

Or contractors ....... I don't understand how it was able to spread as far and as fast Cladding the whole building in a flammable material probably didn't help the situation.

I hate speculation but Maybe a terrorist was preparing a bomb and something went wrong and set fire to the building.
Horrible thing to happen. It appears that the exterior of the building may have been tidied up partly to make it look better from nearby newbuild "luxury apartments" Aka investment properties.
All quite grim really but not that surprising. No doubt the site will be redeveloped and sold to investors.

Anyone else getting fed up with people describing the cladding as 'flammable'? Most things are flammable, try taking a blow torch to your electrical insulation and see what happens.

A terrible tragedy, it's being said that nobody on the top three floors survived and that the death toll will be 50+.

I imagine the people in charge of authorising it might be getting rather fed up ! I'm no expert but something a bit odd seemed to be happening in the published pictures a bit like the building had been doused in petrol !!

I think the landlord can look forward to a long jail sentence. Don't talk daft, there's more chance of a lorry driver going to jail for fiddling his tachograph by five minutes than a wealthy landlord going to jail for multiple manslaughter.

I guess I'm just naive, I find it so hard to believe that a building that houses that many people has somehow managed to slip through the cracks and not have a sprinkler system, or fire alarm in this day and age. How did the building manage to get insurance without those two esscential items? Such a tragic and needless loss of life, not to mention all the surviors who have lost everthing.

Twenty or thirty years ago it might have been fire regulation compliant but as you can see from the photographs of the survivors, this wasn't a building which was inhabited by British people. With cheaper labour comes less need to conform with expensive safety regulations.
