Researching something on the site of the Canal du Nivernais, I discovered this pretty scary photo (2016).
I would prefer if (specially) one of the people present on this photo wouldn't have anything to do with the french canals, as I'm affraid that he has a very bad influence on décisions that have to be made here.
Peter.

Ah, Mr Camera hog Parry. He is an opportunist when there's a camera about. I think he hankers after a future place in the honours list.

So it was definitely taken in France then? I was wondering, (and who paid the expenses for CRT staff to get there)

This time with my glasses on my nose, I had a better look, and found out that the photo was taken at Devises, which at first I had read as Decize (Nivernais)
Cheers !
Cheers !
I am sorry for my wrong information, but it shows anyhow that he's into this twinning between the K & A and the Canal du Nivernais which is a bad thing.

The thing is, the french did a no show. The last time they visited one of our canals, they openly stated it was being run by a "mickey mouse outfit". I think that was 2013.

Well Peter will correct me if I am wrong but I'm pretty sure I have read on here that the French navigation authorities are doing little to cover themselves in glory at the moment, what with the running down of parts of the existing system. So I'm not sure they are in any position to mock CRT.
(Or have I dreamt that?)

There are lots of complains about that, they would like to get rid of the canals of lesser importance, and leave them to the regions they go through. Almost all the monies available are wasted in endless lobying about the new Canal du Nord, which means that there's not much left for all the work that has to be done. They are far from being an example, the only thing in their favour is that they don't chase boaters with S8 and stuff like that. Peter.

Looks like it.
I was talking to the owner of the wonderful Izula (Very Nice Dutch Barge) he said the VNF license is massively cheaper than a Thames license so it makes more sense currently for him to cross the chanel and cruise through France.
You would think bearing in mind the boat is based in London that a cruise up the Thames would be cheaper. But it isn't.

You would think bearing in mind the boat is based in London that a cruise up the Thames would be cheaper. But it isn't. Yes, I have to agree with you "IZULA" is a very nice Dutch Barge (Luxemotor), she has a lovely sheer, and nice high bollards directly next to the wheelhouse doors, which is ideal for single handed cruising that I did on her most of the time, and even with my bad back that wasn't a problem, as I never had to kneel down to do the ropes.
I've skippered her many times for her at the time American owners, and picked her up from a shipyard in Belgium to deliver her at Auxerre (Burgundy-France) to safe the American a long cruise on busy commercial waterways that they didn't fancy, at that time she as called "Volharding Anna" (perseverance Anna).
Her name was changed to "Izula" when the American widow sold the barge 2 years after her husband had died, to a South African and his Aussie Partner, the actual owner who's a nice guy too kept the name.
The cruising licence for France is much cheaper, but I can't imagine that that's his reason for going to France, he's surely not short of a few quid.
I'll add a photo of this beauty (the barge that is) that I took several years ago when they came pretty close to my boat to exchange a few (nice) words.
Peter.
