For some 20 odd years, regularly running from Saltend to Brigg (originally with 100 tons of petrol reduced to 75 tons after she was rebuilt as a motorbarge)

Big thanks to the EA for texting me at 04:32 this morning informing boaters that SSA has been issued for the Ancholme Yes the alert texts and recorded mmm messages really are a very good heads up in cases of flooding. Can't understand why more people don't sign up for flood alerts, they're free and very useful not just for river users but also for those living in river flood zones. So often you hear people bleating " nobody warned us" when it is within their power to help themselves Phil

Yup, I agree ⚓😎🍻⚓
Shame the price you pay is an early morning wake up call from the automated service though!

Auto SMS messages are not so great if you don't have mobile reception and the system doesn't allow you to enter a landline number. A lot of things work well most of the time though.

I don't know anyone with a landline on a boat! They send an email at the same time, although I didn't get a courtesy call like normal.

I'd go for e mail instead of text. At least e mail arrives silently. Meanwhile, I'll stay on muddy ditches......they don't flood Rog
