We bought a new horn for our boat and stuck it on top of the cratch. I'm no electrician and have been wondering how to wire it up to a battery. I didn't want to drill through the back bulkhead so a cable can get to the 2 leisure batteries in the engine room. Someone suggested I get a 12v moped battery - and I thought that's a good idea, that can sit under the kitchen table or somewhere out of the way. So I bought one from Halfords - Yuasa - Made in Wales they said. Playing around with scissors I thought I really need a proper wire stripper and crimper and that at home I'd look at our two similar-looking strippers that I was sure were cheap old crap. In Finland it's hard to find decent tools anyway. I found one in our garage (the other one is in there somewhere!) and it looks like the yellow one in the image.

It's bent askew anyway so will be heading for a charity shop.
This morning having a rummage round Youtube & Ebay & Amazon I'm thinking of turning myself into a 'professional electrician' by buying something like this:
www.amazon.co.uk/Gardner-Bender-GS-370-Stripper-Multi-Tool/dp/B0186AUNNY/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1463298632&sr=8-10&keywords=gardner+bender+stripper
I was wondering what kind of wire strippers/crimpers/cutters members of Thunderboat use. Any advice?
Also this: after taken possession this boat 2 years ago we are finally getting time for something I have wanted to do, and that is to sit in the engine room for a few hours and study the engine, take photos of it and work out how it all runs. Now there is also time to think about our electrics and start drawing some kind of diagrams. Two people have said our batteries' terminals are a mess. This morning I had a look at our batteries from photos I took last week and really don't understand much. At least I'd like to pull the batteries out next time we go to the boat and vacuum and probably paint underneath them. and clean everything up, wiping the wires and so on. The 2 leisures are supposedly made in South Korea, bought June 2014 by us (from Alvechurch marina, south of Birmingham) and the starter battery is from January 2013 (unknown make). Below is a link to photos of the batteries. I will try to work things out for myself but it would be nice to find someone one day who can tell me how it all is, and perhaps assist in tidying things up.
In our case the electricity for the internal electrics (lights, water pumps) doesn't come from the main switch directly, as it's supposed to, but somehow via the engine itself, cables leading off from the engine to the switch panel through the bulkhead - these can be seen in the last photo. So that when the engine was out last year we had no electricity at all.
Which Thunderboat members are competent electricians?
