For me when I use the erm livaboard boater, I mean anybody who lives on a boat. That could be in a marina, or on the cut fulltime. Not matter how many people denigh it's a reality and want to bury there heads this lifestyle is under pressure from the policies of crt. They don't really see people living on the canal as part of their future vision for the waterways. For various reasons they cannot come out and plainly state this is the objective. So they are going about achieving their objective in an underhand way. This is what a really disagree with. They should be open and have a public debate over the future of the waterways. If the majority of the population agreed with their aims. Then boaters would have to live with that. At the moment we have a small group of individuals with no goverment oversight deciding the future of an important historical national asset. In some ways it doesn't effect me, I'm not attached to living in the UK, so if it gets impossible to live on the water in this country. I'll move to a country where it's possible because I intend to continue living on a boat. Please read the post above and also the opening post. This post relates to live aboard boaters and the war being waged on them by C&RT, to use Kris's terms, and IS NOT about continuous cruisers. I will continue to contact C&RT to complain, and point out what I see as poor management, and also praise them where it is deserved. We need to unite as boaters to seek to put pressure on C&RT, and sticking to facts, rather than introducing perceptions, is the way to do it I believe. But I am often mistaken. I'll leave you to it. Rog . "I mean anybody who lives on a boat. That could be in a marina, or on the cut fulltime" As I said most of the targeting is on the latter. Are you saying it's irrelevant?

The policy decisions Crt are making effect liveaboard boaters more than lesure boaters, so no wonder that livaboards are raising concerns first. But it will effect lesure boater as severely in the long term. So you can keep denighing there's an issue, or realise if we want this lifestyle to continue we are going to have to get active. The difference between myself,Steve and other posters on this thread is that we have had conversations with the a lot of the Crt staff responsible for these policy decisions. I worked for Crt for 3.5 years and have had in depth conversations about these issues with a lot of the main players. This is where my concerns come from, not some paranoia. So to the apologist for Crt I say this, you can keep on with your im alright jack mentality and be part of the problem or you can wake up, smell the coffee and become part of the solution. The choice is yours.

Liveaboard boaters must seem to CRT the goose that isn't, but could be laying golden eggs. At present, despite what twits say on the other channel to put off wannabes, it's as cheap as chips and has allowed me to retire early despite having zero income.
People in my position are going to get fleeced up to the point it becomes as expensive as living on land. Much as I like boats, I live on one because it's relatively cheap, solid and comfortable rather than a means of travel. My son looks blank when I suggest going for a spin, he thinks I'm crazy when we have all we need in a marina. But he's no.1 skinflint and would do it to save the paltry sub £1500 marina fees. Maybe next year. Meanwhile the CRT bod regularly checks I'm still not displaying a licence and never comments or sends letters. I think if you have a marina berth you buy a certain amount of shielding but I'll find out eventually when I leave it's "safety". I'm a billigerent fucker so I intend ignoring overstay based on shit sighting records and will keep a log instead until court threatens when I'll head them off as described by Tony and Nigel.

Sorry, that's the best I can do. CRT cannot say they wish to put an end to living on boats even if thst wete their only goal. They can't openly persecute liveaboards, or ban it, they can only make life more awkward and expensive. For me, living aboard is hassle free from CRT or anyone else but I accept what I see and I see them wasting my licence money on corporate clap trap, ignoring boaters, listening to bigots, neglecting maintenance and spending money on vindictive court cases. It could have been so good and still could. It needs an MP to shout about it. Nothing stopping any of us writing to an MP!

Nothing stopping any of us writing to an MP! Here ya go, a project for tomorrow (as I suspect many boaters are shightly shloshed on a Saturday evening, as indeed we are orf to the pub in a mo'). Put your thoughts in writing, check it before sending it to every Minister for Parliament you can find. Note those who do not reply and re-send. Have tried my M.P. DEFRA and Sajid Javid the minister for communities and local gov AND THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED!.I raised concern over the licence review and was told it is an issue solely for c.r.t. as they are an "independant charity" ,(despite receiving £36 million of public funds!?,(with a grant agreement attached between defra and c.r.t.https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/canal-river-trust-grant-agreement-with-defra)),and they run c.r.t. "as they see fit"...When c.r.t. was formed,it was said then that they should be regulated by government, this is clearly not happening.Have I given up?..NOT A CHANCE!...The cut has been my home for 17 years and I have nowhere else to go except the streets or prison!. WRITE THOSE LETTERS AND FOLLOW THEM UP WHEN YOU ARE IGNORED!,the more noise we make, the better the chance someone will pay attention to us. You might also like to try registering yourselves on the housing list of your local council, stating that c.r.t.s draconian behavior towards liveaboards is forcing you off the canal. This action was taken by many on the K and A when it was b.w. and the local council soiled themselves

But your right to keep pestering the democratically appointed people who are supposed to represent the people's interests. The problem with registering with the local authority is "no local connection" I think the House of Lords is probably the best bet, there must be some Lord that's into boats and boating. It's the lack of over sight that needs pressing home.

The word is spelt D.E.N.Y. or D.E.N.I.E.D. or D.E.N.Y.I.N.G

Ah the old 'dyslexia' chestnut. I think it's more probable that you are just a bit thick and couldn't be bothered to learn to spell at school, in the same way as you can't be bothered to observe the simple rules incumbent upon those who liveaboard/continuously cruise on the inland waterways preferring instead to split hairs and whine claiming 'special circumstances' with your similarly idiotic sidekick and echo Steve. Its not the done thing to comment on spelling on forums. There are loads of ways in which to attack other posters but spelling is not a valid one.
My honest opinion.
