The road follows the railway line, a few metres apart. If you go to Google Maps and enter 'Kannus' and follow Road 28 east you'll see the area where road & rail are twixed. They both climb fairly steeply up to where Road 86 heads off to Ylivieska and the railway goes that way also, Ylivieska being the next station after Kannus; and it's at Ylivieska where another line goes east right across 'Savo' to Pyhäsalmi, Kiuruvesi and Iisalmi. At Iisalmi the main line from Helsinki via Mikkeli and Kuopio comes up, to continue to Kajaani and to Oulu: My wife was from Kiuruvesi. When I moaned about the railway station being so far from the village centre she said they usually built the stations where the railway was! (I see on the map they put a red dot for Mikkeli but fogot to name it! It's between Kouvola and Pieksämäki)

I struggle with pronouncing Welsh place names I have been to Sweden twice for a total of 5 weeks, 3 weeks work, 2 weeks honeymoon. I couldn't pronounce alot of the place names there either! The Swedes English was, on the whole excellent. My Swedish was and still is shit. Shouting Volvo, Saab and IKEA doesn't get you very far, apart from to the car dealers and a shed full of flat pack

Place names: I drive to Tokola and Takalo - those can be confusing in the same sentence. And Väli-Viirre is a bit unusual when it comes to changing the end to say 'from' and 'to' and 'in' that hamlet. Niemeläntie is a bit difficult to say quickly. In 2.5 weeks' time we'll be driving across Sweden - Örnsköldsvik is one that always get me! And then across the Hardanger Plateau (first video). After that along the road between Kinsarvik and Odda (third clip):

There is one blogger on here Tsinca, nice couple but you want to see this bloke sink Malt Whisky,I made the mistake of bringing out the bottle one afternoon thinking he was just passing by on the Towpath, but I soon realised he had come looking for me purposefully.Anyway the bottle is duly finished and off he goes to snore, fart and belch for the rest of the afternoon,I of course still have work to attend to.A few weeks later I came across his blog only to find it full of him and his Mrs drinking wine with all of his fellow bloggers, there they would all be sat partying and taking pictures in the galley of his boat.It was then I realised that I had never been aboard his boat or received a glass of wine,EVER in all the time I have known him.My mate reckons that to gain admission to these parties you perhaps need to take the Mrs,what do you reckon Gazza? I'm a miserable fucker who likes to keep myself to myself, I give em a wide berth if I can. I never got my head round the we share the same interests so we must all be best buddies. Don't get me wrong I'm pleasant and polite to strangers but I don't welcome every boater I meet with open arms! When i was on my motorbike I saw some twat nearly get blown off the back of his BMW enthusiastically waving at me coming in the opposite direction. I never indulged in that bollocks then. We are getting it in the Alfa too, no fucker waves at me in my Skoda though Well yes Gazza it is an Alfa a proper car so we all wave to each other. It also helps when you go out in convoy someone else can pick up the bits that drop off

That was the end of that! Fingers crossed this year is better.

My wife was from Kiuruvesi. When I moaned about the railway station being so far from the village centre she said they usually built the stations where the railway was! Some stations like that around 'ere too, not my local one fortunately though!
