The things is Kris, you have extremely limited experience of the waterways. You are stressing because you have read something about it on the internet. But sure, gentrification is happening, if that's what you want to call it. Or you could call it improvement in the same way that slums with no bathroom and only an outside toilet have given way to houses and flats more suited to 21st century expectations. When I first started boating the centre of Birmingham around old turn junction was a grotty dirty mess of run-down factories. Now it is fantastic. If that is what you call gentrification then I'm all for it.
What you are effectively saying is that you want other people to carry on living in the slums with no bath and only an outside toilet, just so that your environment can remain frozen in time like some historical exhibit. Ain't going to happen, so get over it.

Oh look tweedle dee and tweedle dum are ganging up on me. No, we are just offering our viewpoints, but as usual you take anybody who doesn't have exactly the same view as you, to be the enemy. Very sad. Are you autistic?

I think both Tomsk and Nick are missing an important point.
If you wish to keep the historic (and colourful) roots of boating then unmoderated "gentrification" is a bloody disaster.
The maintenance and restoration of old ex commercial vessels requires old fashioned docks, yards, quays and maritime scrapyards.
Many such areas where in the past, enthusiasts (or lunatics if you prefer) could spend weeks, months or even years bashing the hell out of large bits of metal plus producing the dust and smell of grinding, cutting and welding, are now no more.
The yard where Sabina was lifted out is now flats. The engineering shop where some of the parts were fabricated is a sports hall.
The moorings where she sat in the periods when I had insufficient funds to start the next stage ........ are gone.
If I found Sabina now as opposed to 20 years ago I doubt I would have been able to do the job.
People buy the dream of a place by the water with the pretty boats going past ......... but then object wildly to all the things that go with it that makes that view possible.
If a pseudo reality rather than the real thing is what the public want ........ then I'm glad I won't be around to see it.
In my book reality, is warts and all, otherwise it's just pap to keep the masses quiet

In my opinion crt will have to introduce museum harbours like in the Netherlands.

I have no objection to Waterways history, nor would I wish to blot it out. However it is hard to object to the system being generally maintained for all Users on the basis that a few want it left to decay further.
