I agree with most of that except that I do see a threat to CC'ers. I said before that if you want to get to the truth behind the intent, look at the output. I gave a list of things I have noticed over the last few years. It's basically a gradual creep of more money being pumped into enforcment/management and less on maintenence. The 'London' problem is being dealt with as though it's a national problem, which it isn't. It's being used as an excuse to tinker with things which don't need tinkering with. Sorry for delay in replying,I don't think output is perhaps the best "measuring stick" in this instance. Things are indeed changing as are most things in life,a somewhat trite response but true nonetheless. More money is indeed being pumped into Enforcement but I suggest that may be because of the lack of Enforcement by BW rather than a targeted agenda against CC.You know just as I do that people have flooded onto the canal completely unaware of what a CC license is let alone the Terms and Conditions implied.BW through their general unwillingness to rigidly enforce those Terms and Conditions were complicit in creating this mess. That said I don't see Continuous Moorers down on the GU south, if that is down to better Enforcement then who is going to argue? As regards lack of Maintenance I agree with that, but if its just a case of managing the budget and we have perhaps increased maintenance in the next Financial Period I don't know.I think your last point hopefully you can expand a bit on so I can get a better handle on what concerns you. Measuring stick is your terminology not mine. The truth is indeed seen in the output. If you travelled a bit further than 10 miles either side of MK you might start seeing it for yourself. In the mean time carry on lending the NBTA your printer.

I have put quotation marks around "measuring stick" perhaps in your haste to take a cheap dig you didn't notice? I travel as far as I like when I like but make sure I meet the terms of my license isn't that what all CC do? Perhaps you feel I need to be Christopher Columbus to know about America? As regards lending the NBTA my printer,I have an office with Secretary and all that entails and being in business I obviously know people who know people (Printers, Designers, etc etc) NBTA are aware of this,if they take advantage, good and if not who cares?Perhaps you feel campaigns are better organised on the back of a Fag Packet ? I want to make it plain to you and others that I carry no brief for either the CRT or the NBTA,I was simply hoping we could kick around for the sake of everyone here some of the issues, but after reading your reply above, evidently not.

Have you got any issues that you want to kick around? I was under the impression we were exchanging views over the Existence or Not of an Anti CC Agenda by the CRT, if you feel our exchange of views is going nowhere then fine.I don't see where your attempt to denigrate me fits with that,I for my part have answered your points with the best of intention. Several posters on here myself included remain unconvinced about the existence of any surreptitious agenda against CC and I have answered your points one by one as you listed them in your original post.To then be met with your response that amounts to a groundless dig at myself, which againI have answered point by point does our debate no good whatsoever. Perhaps we best leave it for some fresh comment from other posters and maybe kick on from there?

I wonder if Matthew Symonds visits Thunderboat now and then for a laugh: "Look at those Liveaboard Gits trashing each other!" he chortles. Sometimes it's like the Black Hole of Calcutta in here I find everyone's outlook on here quite reasonable. CRT can do whatever they like as they know there'll never be coherent opposition to their Evil Empire. I also wonder if Matthew sits at his computer on Saturday mornings, reading Thunderboat, with his Darth Vader outfit on. (Having a peek at Canalworld last night I am a bit dismayed that there are stoppages on the Macclesfield Canal and at Marple Locks - it looks like the whole of the canal system in the north of England is shutting down. Perhaps CRT can sell the whole lot to someone for just 1 Pound a la Philip Green?) I don't think many people who seriously want to oppose CRT would bother doing it through here or CWF. That's probably why you see very few from the NBTA on here. In fact I think CDS is the only one who has claimed to be a member on here so far.

I don't know if it's about opposing Crt, but keeping them accountable for their actions. As has been pointed out, there is no process of oversight apart the courts. So at the moment they feel free to do what they like. In my opinion this is where Nbta come into their own, publicising what Crt get up to. The network will be in decline under crt's stewardship this is their policy. Can't remember off the top of my head if the decline in the maintenance budget is 15% or 20% but this was publicised when the trust was formed.

Maintenance can't surely decline year after year, can it ? There is a pot of money i.e. a budget, how that budget is spent will vary from financial year to financial year. I merely present an alternative viewpoint for arguments sake,I hasten to add

BTW when I refer to CRT in critical posts (and I have made positive posts about them), I'm really focusing on the decision making processes and politics, not those on the front line. Somebody needs to maintain the system, I'm just unsure of the motives regarding boaters.

I think fuckwit should do some research, mind you he sees such a small section of the network. My boats done a greater distance than his in the last five years even though I've been stationery for 20 months. It was a stated policy of crt's that the maintenance budget would be in decline for the first 10 years.

CRT will never catch up with the backlog of maintenance. Its never going to keep up with the amount of work that needs doing, especially as they now use contractors. When they took over from BW, they lost the opportunity to close up on the backlog that had grown. Bad negotiating skills and foresight saw them clobbered by the government. CRT lost because a desperate bid to move away from government control saw them basically do and say anything just to get the deal done.
Year on year I see the system crumbling. Doing the trip yearly from London to brum, I can see the deterioration, and it's substantial.

You make a fool of yourself continuously.I have been round most of the network when you were a toddler, secondly as regards my cruising pattern, its you who are in Enforcement not me and thirdly if it is CRTs stated policy then why are people taking issue ?

I am not sure about the never catching up,but I think your totally right in all you say regarding CRT incompetence with contractors. negotiating skills and lack of foresight some of the people I have met are just bureaucratic idiots who can't think. and work for an organisation that doesn't foster individual thinking either.
