Finally got round to a little job that has been in the wings waiting for a round tuit.
#A few months back I acquired a small electric crane (type designed for the back of a pick up) British made not Chinese ..... only rated at 100 Kg but built like a proverbial outhouse. It only has a small reach but ideal for lifting things in opr out of the engine room. I welded two mounting points (originally it was designed wioth a flat plate screw down base but I cut that off, so it just slots into a socket on the engine room top (well two sockets actually so it can be used down either hatch)
I have also just bought a 600W wind generator so it occurred to me that the other of the sockets would be perfect to mount the pole of the generator.
Now I have to just fabricate a mounting on the top of the pole t match the flange on the generator
I'm trying to work out how the hatch opens, the step looks to be in the way. Does it fold away? It just misses the step itself but there is a small folding peg sticking out from the step which acts as a lock to hold the hatch open bit Heath Robinson but works fine so it's staying

ETA I suppose the window makes a top mounted clip unfeasible.

This is how the engine room hatch on Dulcinea has been done. You open it and it and a nice heavy stainless steel clips slides over it. I added the signage due to a slightly traumatic background in health and safety enforcement and it was a front facing camera.

dogless wondered at the lack of posting... Well. I can say with some pleasure we managed to get a bit of cruising in through the end of August and beginning of September No chance of that now on the account of some idiot exposing great holes in the hull.... During the Turbo fit I moved the exhaust outlet to a position above the waterline, we were supposed to come out of the water in May 2019 but for various reasons it didn't happen - 16 months later I end up with this sat on my office floor! Utter ball ache to get on the back of the bronze slotted screws to cut the nuts off inside the boat so the heads were gouged off instead - seems a shame after all these years to muller the flange but hey ho - destroy to create and all that. I still had to remove the cauliflower to allow me to get at the silencer. This is the original that would have been handmade at Appleyard and Lincoln, Brass flange with a 38mm ( 1 1/2" old money) copper pipe brazed onto it. It has been there for 54 odd years, the sealant (what's left of it!) probably wouldn't go another 54! The next conundrum was what to do about the toilet flush skin fitting, that too has ben in place for ever and a day, while it wasn't leaking and remained undisturbed it would be alright wouldn't it?? wouldn't it? wouldn't.... In the end I let my angle grinder get the better of me! A damn site better quality than the through holes that rely on a backnut pulling up on a ply spreader. Should I have done it? That will be a yes! naff all sealant left so probably caught that one about right. The drawback of having to hack it out (the nuts were all glassed over so would have been a sod to expose) means it needs to be replaced with a super expensive Blakes 3/4 seacock, that said it will be the last one I ever buy for her! www.leesan.com/shop/tank-accessories/seacocks/blakes-seacock-threequarterinch-or-1-halfinch.aspxThe last hole was a redundant 3/4 skin fitting, nothing to shout about that or pictures worth worrying about! I know have two holes to glass in - and a valve to replace - good progress so far considering we only got em out on Saturday

sorry to drag up the past, but I missed this post. Did you get on with the wind turbine John? I met someone with one this year, he said they where alright but he needed to get a better mppt controller for it. I must admit I thought about buying one, but I posted on here and was put off by the way people poo pooed them. So I would be very interested in what you think of it long term.

Ummmm let me see; nope! I'll give that a miss! Although this job has yielded a bog related job I've been putting off - removing the redundant exhaust system and shifting the cauliflower to gain access to the hull side for the glass repair means I have now gained some space for the holding tank; the one I've been avoiding fitting for some time.....

That will be like the tanks I fitted to Parglena in 2004/5 a proplusion diesel tank leaving the old diesel tank for heating and the second water tank that was plumbed to change use to a grey water tank if needed.

I think the quoted power could only be achieved in the vortex of a tornado ...... so far I have never managed more than 10 watts ....... I can't believe it's that poor and I will be looking to see if I can improve it in any way ......... I will report on success or lack of
